Space Wars takes turn-based strategy into early access this December

On the podcast this week, one listener asked us if we could recommend — or even think of — any modern turn-based MMOs. Naturally, one came across our radar just too late for the broadcast, but at least we can share it with you here.

Space Wars touts itself as being “a turn-based tactical strategy MMO, where real-time travel meets turn-based combat.” In the game, players will join up with one of four factions and fight to take over the galaxy planet by planet. Combat shows 3-D ship models battling it out in successive rounds, as captains make essential decisions each turn and allocate points in RPG trees.

The game is being developed for PC, Mac, and Linux platforms and will be playable at PAX West before coming to early access this December. It’s being made by Desert Owl Games, a studio founded by two former Pox Nora leads and composed of mostly female devs. You can check out both its story and gameplay trailers after the jump!
