Last week, Russian games developer AbsolutSoft unveiled Hired Ops, or maybe I should say unveiled again, as it was previously known Contract Wars Standalone and is based on the Contract Wars franchise. Hired Ops is probably the catchier name for the title, whose devs say the original game counted 48 million players worldwide.

While not an MMORPG, the game is billed as a “dynamic online shooter” and offers character customization, guilds, large-scale warfare, and a hardcore mode.

Hired Ops is a session-based online shooter dedicated to fierce conflicts between rival mercenary groups battling on a global scale. Using the latest weapons and special equipment, players take part in armed encounters, unite into private military companies, carry out contracts, build bases and aggressively compete with each other – all for the sake of domination in the world mercenary market. Players are free to choose from any of the five different fighter classes, each featuring an elaborately crafted skill system and an arsenal rich in weapon variety and weapon modifications. Hired Ops includes a diverse mix of game modes, including the ‘Enhanced Realism’ mode.”

The game is due to hit Steam early access before the end of the year. We’ve dropped the trailer down below.
