Crowfall dives deep into the pint-sized Duelist

Good things, they say, come in small packages. If you prefer playing diminutive characters over hulking slabs of beef, then Crowfall’s Guinecean Duelist might be making a play for your attention. It’s a swashbuckling guinea pig who makes up for his small stature with powerful, precise attacks — and a few surprises.

In this week’s class deep dive, the team explained the process behind creating the Duelist’s power kit. On top of melee (with a pinch of firearms thrown in for good luck), the Duelist brings threat to the board with his burrowing skills: “We also felt like it was time to bite off stealth as a feature because it dovetails nicely into the exploration game loop that is going to be more important now that we are transitioning from session-based games to a persistent universe.”

One of the Duelist’s most important skills is Vanish, through which the class can disappear in a smoke screen and leave behind an explosive decoy that will knock down anyone near enough to it. The class looks to be inspired in part by The Princess Bride’s Inigo Montoya, with powers and attributes such as “Inconceivable” and “Humiliations Galore!”
