Pokemon Go preps holiday bonus event, lays groundwork for Ditto

“What better way to say thank you than to celebrate our community?” That’s the question Pokemon Go’s Niantic is asking this Thanksgiving week. And apparently Niantic would like to celebrate you by getting you out of the house over the holiday and getting you playing Pokemon Go with its double-experience and double-stardust event beginning Wednesday and running a full week.

Over the weekend, the studio rolled out an innocuously named update for both Android and iOS that ostensibly fixed text issues and a cutscene. But the player dataminers at The Silph Road dug in to discover that in fact, the update lays the groundwork for new placeholder sponsors (spatula, thermometer, and knife… cryptic, right?), adds new code for the nearby tracker that will toggle the sighting radar, and adds in images and sounds for Ditto, who is apparently set to go live soon. The website also notes that new materials flagged shiny and rare look to be a possibility.
