WRUP: Jurassic Park is a pretty bad movie edition

This may be a shock, but it's time.

It’s time for us to just admit this as a species: Jurassic Park is not a good movie. I know, you have fond memories of it; I do too, aside from the fact that I remember being disappointed with it even as a child because it was more interested in “rawr scary dinosaurs” than actually showing off these magnificent, enormous animals. But the movie is about five minutes of cool, memorable moments mixed in with a bland, overlong plot that’s mostly just people running around scared as everything gets ruined.

The science doesn’t hold up, the characters are thin pastiches (including Jeff Goldblum being slimy enough to leave a residual bad taste in my mouth), and what made the movie work in the first place was how enormously compelling those dinosaurs look. That part still can impress viewers; not much else does. So “Chris Pratt and a team of raptors vs. invisible T-Rex” is really more of a lateral move for the franchise.

That’s all, folks. Oh, right, What Are You Playing is here. Let us know in the comments!

Andrew Ross (@dengarsw): More Asheron’s Call and Asheron’s Call 2. Maybe some Worlds Adrift alpha. Maybe Pokémon Go, though it’s tough since the last patch made my Plus stop working. A man can only grind so many Pidgies before wanting to quite, which is why I got the damn Plus. What’s the point if it doesn’t work?

Brianna Royce (@nbrianna, blog): I’m still playing a bit of Trove, and I’m still sick (argh), so I’ll likely game a bit this weekend. I’m definitely going to head into Marvel Heroes to muck around with the new changes too.

Eliot Lefebvre (@Eliot_Lefebvre, blog): I’ve been far more into Final Fantasy XIV than World of Warcraft after the former’s most recent patch, so I’ll probably be focusing chiefly on that. I will, however, be playing both alongside Lord of the Rings Online and various single-player antics. And I’ll be working on revising my book, although that’s not really a game.

Justin Olivetti (@Sypster, blog): I’m taking a peek once again at my Shaman in World of Warcraft to see if I can arrive at a happy place with it. Apart from that, I’ve been using my Saturday gaming time to do odds and ends in various games, such as working on the epic in LotRO and writing up my The Secret World series. I haven’t yet settled on a new game to try (something I do every Saturday), so any suggestions would be welcome!

Your turn!
