The Daily Grind: Have any 2017 previews sucked you back into MMOs?

15

One thing I look forward to at the start of every year is seeing all of the producer’s letters, states of the game, and previews that are posted about upcoming plans for MMOs. It’s great to be treated to a vision of where these games are going over the next year — and a good excuse to get back on board titles that have been neglected.

So far in 2017 we have seen Lord of the Rings Online, Dungeons and Dragons Online, WildStar, SWTOR, and Guild Wars 2 (among others) attempt to draw attention and beckon to lapsed players with their visions of upcoming patches and expansions. When you read these letters, do they work to get you back into games you previously left? Have you found your playing patterns change thanks to such previews?

Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your preferred beverage and take a stab at answering the question posed in today’s Daily Grind!

In the same boat as others. Nothing from any of those announcements has me interested.

Agreed.

I always come back for GW2 updates, that’s a given. But believe it or not the Standing Stone news got me thinking about DDO and LOTRO again and I’ve re-downloaded both and begun to play them once or twice a week.

ATTENTION MODS: please delete this comment. I can’t figure out how to delete and I don’t want my real name as my display name. I will refrain from further posting until I figure that out.

Also trying to edit your own profile gives you an error saying you don’t have “Permissions to access this Admin page.”

You can change the display name so it’s what you have currently.

I edited my name at the source of the account login and have logged on and off several times. Also attempting to edit it in system simply sends you to a blank “Author” page. It still uses my real name for some reason and there is no way to delete your own comments either.

So I figured out that if I log out and then do a password reset, and then login from the page it dumps you at, it’ll let you change your settings. Of course, the only way to get back to the settings page again, is to roll through another password reset.

CDawg (hehe, yeah I did that), I updated it for you — apparently I can do that, sweet. I did delete the other post before I thought to try this though. I am not sure why it’s giving you a ‘no perms’ error because you’re the same ‘rank’ as the other peeps who can edit their profiles! Unless something broke like super recently. But I don’t think so, Dave had to go to bed. :D

Edit: NM I’m a dummy — this post is old. I don’t think we had got the profiles working 6 hours ago. They should work now though!

You guys are rockstars, keep on spewing entertainment for me to gobble up. One thing to add to the I’m sure giant list of things to do. Comment deletion, still can’t do it :(

So from a minute ago, if I log in via Google, then the account page takes me to a page with the word “Author” and nothing else on it. I logged out and back in via my old WordPress credentials and was able to access the account settings just fine. Also appears to still be linked with Google anyway but was able to tweak my user name and all that.

EDIT: Er, nevermind, it took me to my account settings once, and now it’s back to the “Author” page.

EDIT2: I realized it had nothing to do with my WordPress account since it’s not. It’s that when I did the password reset, it followed up by taking me to the account settings.

And then an entire article’s worth of comments cried out in terror before being extinguished.

Nothing has really sucked me back in. FFXIV would have if I wasn’t continually playing it.

Sadly none of the existing publisher notes gave me anything to get too excited about so far this year.
