Worlds Adrift preps next alpha round with biome, lighting, and respawn tweaks


Hey, Landmark fans. Missing your game? Wondering where you’ll go next? How about Worlds Adrift? It’s a purty buildy sandboxy toy heading into its Alpha 6.1 playtest, which is testing out the new interior lighting system, new respawn rules, a revamp of the game’s major biomes, new acrobatic skills, new ship parts and cores, and — this is the cool one — object lifecycles.

“Loose objects players leave behind will start to deteriorate and sink into the ground,” explains Bossa Studios. “As the tempestuous death clouds strike the islands with lightning bolts from below, exciting the atlas buried within and creating mini-earthquakes, some of these objects will become completely buried. At the same time, other forgotten relics of the past will be brought to the surface.”

Signups for the test run until March 1st, and you can already go build islands for free on Steam.

So what’s the pvp status on this game? I looked around on their website but they don’t come right out and say its always on. I’m assuming that’s the case because most of the sandboxes coming out now are that way.


Been looking forward to this game for a long time, can’t wait much longer, lol.


It is crazy unwieldy currently. Stuff drops and is lost (floating islands) or kills you (random way trees “explode” when chopped) or broken (can’t see your ship’s top sail tip as you are forced into 1st person view when steering, so you can easily scratch something if you rise or try to fly to one of the many very awkwardly shaped islands). You can’t fix a ship that is broken without having a ship yard constructed first into which you need to steer, but you have to reach the island first as shipyards must be on islands. And if your ship is broken good luck with that.

And if you suicide to make it to an island you loose pretty much everything. And you can drag your ship with the grappling hook from another location (2nd ship) but a shipyard can only have one ship anchored and you can’t pull items from one shipyard into another and they can’t overlap. So you end up with lots of half broken ships you can’t steer nor swap pieces from to make one flying one.

Overall makes it currently VERY frustrating.
