No Man’s Sky patches in a fix to allow faster movement on every planet

Last week, No Man’s Sky patched in the option to build rovers for quickly traversing the landscape. That’s just a good thing, right? After all, it means that you could hop from place to place without having to use up fuel on your ship. Except that for some reason, the geobays required for these rovers could only be built on your home planet, meaning that you couldn’t use them at all on any new world you discovered. In other words, a great new tool for exploring strange new worlds could not be used to explore strange new worlds.

Whether this was an accident or an oversight is unclear, but either way, it’s been changed now. Players can now build geobays on new worlds, meaning you can hop in and start exploring with faster movement wherever you wind up. Or you can just put on an appropriate soundtrack and start crushing the local wildlife underneath your exploratory vehicle’s wheels. It’s all up to you, it’s your playground.

The usage of vehicles on planets other than your homeworld is awkward. To build an exovehicle port, you have to carry or find all the raw materials. On your homeworld, the vehicles act more like a traditional MMO “mount”; once you’ve bulit the port, you can summon them anywhere.

I’d happily sacrifice a cargo space on my ship for a vehicle, instead of the several spaces taken up by those raw materials.

The vehicles are fun to operate, but the swath of death and destruction they leave in their wake is a bit distressing. I’ve been tempted to move to a dead planet just to avoid running down hapless herbivores. They often don’t rez until I’m already past; the only indication that I ran them over is the death-cry behind me.

I’m still disappointed in the variety their procedural generation algorithms create. There’s too much of a sameness to most planets I go to that really blunts my interest in exploring.

Having said that, it’s still fun to occasional dump a couple hours into it here and there, especially after the founder and pathfinder updates. Overall felt I got my money’s worth, I just hope they can improve things at some point so I can be excited to see what the next planet looks like, rather than just wonder which day-glo palette will be used this time.

This is solid game for $15-$20.

I was one of the few who paid attention to hype vs reality and knew I wasn’t getting an online game or rotating worlds with changing climates. With that said, I’ve been happy with it since launch. I’ve taken a large break from it and will be hopping in again after all these updates. Checked out the reddit sub and it seems a lot of people are really enjoying everything they’ve done since launch.

It was honestly exactly what I thought it would be. I’m not mad at it at all either.

I didn’t follow the pre launch hype for this one so didn’t have many expectations for it. I feel I got my monies worth out of it from what I played. I keep meaning to update it and take another look but well I have too many options at the moment.

now if only they were not STILL trying to charge full price for this stinker, I might just check it out.

It was 40% off last weekend after pathfinder update release. They did the same thing for release of founders update. If you use steam you should add it to your wishlist so steam can notify you next time it goes on sale. Otherwise do a google news alert or keep an eye out for next update announcment knowing it will probably be on sale again shortly after.

It was still too much for me at 40 percent off given all the negativity surrounding it . If I see it on humble bundle at some point I might take a look or maybe at 10 dollars or below
