TERA sweetens its subscription package

Just because an MMORPG is free-to-play doesn’t mean that the studio really wants you to, y’know, play for free. Over the past year or so, we’ve seen several MMO studios strongly encourage players to make the switch to a subscription from both the carrot and the stick angles.

TERA is more carrot, for sure, especially this week as the fantasy title announced that it’s beefing up its subscription benefits with a new daily reward. “TERA has a lot to offer players who opt in for elite status, and En Masse just made elite status that much more tempting…with free EMP!” the studio posted. “Once each day, elite players will be able to collect 15 EMP when they log in on top of all the other perks they get for their elite status.”

TERA’s sub also includes double dungeon entries, double XP boosts, special store sales, a village atlas, a travel journal, no broker fees, and other daily rewards. So what do you think, TERA players? Is this enough to convince you to make the switch?

I still play from time to time, mostly because I love my Elin and her cute little outfits. I just never felt like Tera had enough content to justify a sub, and I’ve been in and out since CB. I did buy a box copy to get Founder status, but as pretty as the game is and as great as its combat is, IMHO there just isn’t much else besides combat to do. That being said, this sub deal isn’t bad if that’s your thing.

Ironically, this makes me less likely to subscribe. I really dislike feeling like I have to log every day, and having as a subscription perk a great benefit that requires logging daily is a good way to drive me away instead.

Come on, you know that game is full of people playing nothing but the loli classes

I’m sure there is some Loli benefit for subs >.>

The thing that really ruins this game for me is out of combat health regeneration or lack thereof, the system in place isn’t very easily understood.

What really!? That’s great news!

This is very appealing, especially since a lot of the prices in the EMP store are not round numbers. For example for $10 you get 1000 points but that costume you want is 1100…so you have to spend $20 worth of points.

I think I may just sub, I’ve always liked this game.

Hmmm. I tried Tera a while back on a computer that didn’t handle the graphics well. I’m ready to try this out on my new computer now. I’ve heard lots of great things about the combat. :) It was fun a few years ago when I played, but everything was sluggish due to my machine.

I’ve been playing TERA quite a lot of late (after several years not logged in at all). I’ve not subbed b/c:
1. I’d purchased a Founder CE prior to launch, which still provides quite a few benefits (mounts, inventory space etc). I am having an absolute blast with the all the zany…everything…the game has embraced.
2. There was simply not enough incentive for the “Elite” status subscription.

I might reconsider now, especially since i just cancelled my SWTOR sub after a couple of years, due in no small part to Larry’ column yesterday. http://massivelyop.com/2017/03/22/hyperspace-beacon-if-youre-not-playing-star-wars-the-old-republic-why-are-you-still-subbed/

Oh, and btw, EMP is TERA’s equivalent to premium currency purchased with real money…for the cash shop.

The elite status always seemed to be about having better cash shop discounts. Though it is my philosophy that once I have sub, I shouldn’t need to spend more money on cash shop items. Catch 22. So I’ve remain unsubbed…and enjoyed the benefits of the Founders CE as well, instead.

So I need also to see if the beefing up the sub rewards goes beyond being a whale version of Costco. EMP rewards system seem to be moving in that direction. However, I’ll wait and see how this all goes. :)
