Path of Exile has ‘a lot more expansions coming’

Pretty much every MMO player dreams of sitting his or her favorite developers down to get the honest and direct truth. While Grinding Gear Games isn’t making house calls (yet), the dev team did make an effort to satisfy community curiosity by tackling an assortment of 30 submitted questions about Path of Exile.

There was some concern over the potential for a bug flood when the expansion drops this fall. GGG said that it’s on top of it: “There’s a lot changing in 3.0.0 so there’s a lot of scope for problems to creep in unless we find them. To deal with this, we’ve expanded our QA team over the years and it’s currently the largest it has ever been. In addition, we’re running a beta for 3.0.0 specifically to find problems before they affect the live realm.”

There was no confirmation regarding a launch date for the expansion, but the team did discuss lengthening the ignore list, trade improvements, the Xbox One launch, and controller support. The team also hinted that there are “a lot more” expansions being planned for the MMO.

“There are a lot more expansions coming, and they’ll likely cover many types of content,” GGG says. “Only one of our five expansions released so far includes a new act for example! We’ll likely continue to make more new acts in the future.”

At this point, with the momentum PoE has, Blizzards best bet to even stay in the game… is to remaster D2 (like they have done with Starcraft). There are a TON of Diablo players that would throw their wallets at blizzard for a remastered D2 game that was 100% D2, but with higher res graphics and the ability to play in 4k

PoE is the game I play intensively for a month or two before leaving it, exhausted, for another half a year or so. :D

I usually do this too… but after half a year there’s always new content and new league stuff, making it worth another go.

I play for a month, then come back for the next season, which seems to be about 3 months later (or 2, or 5, not sure which lol).

GGG needs to rethink their concept of “new content”. I just can’t bring myself to level characters over and over in the same levels anymore.

Part of what made leveling such a pain in PoE is having to play through the same 4 acts, 3 times (each difficulty mode).

They are doing away with that. So for each character, you only do each act ONCE… which will help a lot.

Toss in 6 new acts to earn xp in, new enemies, new story, new powers, new mechanics, new items…. there are a lot of things that will make playing another character seemingly a whole new experience. And with the claim that new acts are coming (in additional upcoming expansions), I think PoE is in a peak time of keeping things new and interesting compared to what players are used to.

The Q&A have shrunk, I remember at some point they had such big ones that it took like a minute to scroll through.
