WildStar just lost its lead combat designer

It can later become unreal, of course.

This is not an April Fools’ Day joke: WildStar’s Lead Combat Designer just announced on Twitter that he has left Carbine Studios.

“I’ll give everyone a shout out when I start my new job and hopefully later when we can talk about what we’re doing!” he writes.

Engle is the second high-profile dev to depart the game this month; Senior Product Manager Jen Ortiz left just two weeks ago.

Wishing them both all the best.

Only thing keeping WildStar back is bitter feelings from early players and NCSoft being HIGHLY mistrusted because they closed down a game when it was still profitable. Wildstar the game is fine. If it wasn’t in NCsoft’s hands it would be doing better. People just don’t feel comfortable investing time into Wildstar after NCsoft’s COH debacle. I hope Carbine attempts to buy back the game. That didn’t work for COH devs though. Oh well. Atleast the Chua can live on in MXM lol.

They should release it on consoles I honestly feel it would fare MUCH better that or give it a secret world style makeover

At the rate Wildstar is leaking staff Project Gorgon will have a bigger dev team if not now, soon ™.

Lets all remind ourselves that NCsoft closed City Of Heroes while it was profitable, and yet keeps this Raid or Die turd afloat even as the developers jump ship.

And as a even bigger FU they are using Statesman in their overwatch/atlas reactor clone.

Profitable by whose standards?

Not by NCsoft. COH was profitable though. I never had the pleasure of playing it but everything I have read says it was profitable. The thing is NCSoft had GW2 and BNS coming up. They just tossed COH aside. They didn’t even have the decency to let the Developers buy the IP.

Huh, I would have said that MxM was closer to DOTA/League of Legends inspired rather than Overwatch (FPS) and Atlas Reactor (turn based)

Because when they closed down CoH, they had two major Western developed MMO’s plus a Korean MMO on the horizon. GW2 was a huge success for them, WS obviously tanked, and B&S has done well for them.

Right now though? They have Lineage Eternal possibly coming West, but that’s not going to even be out in Korea for a bit longer. And no new Western developed MMO’s to clear up some market space and resources for.

You taking a myopic view of their business practices because you’re still holding a 5 year (or however long) grudge is your problem.

And if you missed their explanation behind that, it wasn’t the intentional middle finger that salty CoH vets were all crying about. It was a few people on their team trying to do what they thought would be something nice for CoH fans, but clearly underestimating how salty they are.

Wildstar is a decent game. I dunno where people are getting their info. Coincidentally, I’m finding your post after I just mentioned what you said about COH. What NCSoft did to COH is honestly what’s killing Wildstar. Everyone is just waiting for it to die because of NCSoft and COH. Wildstar imo has always been decent. The only reason I haven’t gone back to it is because of NCSoft. I’m guessing there are more like me.

I remember having many a ‘discussion’ with a certain troll on the old massively about this very line of thinking! At least Wildstar outlasted his nonsense, which is about all it’s done to be honest!

Well, it is better, at least until Morrowind.

The thing with having all these departures in the news is that it leaves a lingering stench around the product. Carbine should probably address this.

I’d make a joke about WildStar dying, but that horse has been beaten to death already.

Happy April Fools!

Sad for those who enjoy the game. Many of the ideas had promise, even if the implementation on them was very poor… and even if the overall game design idea with ‘return to hardcore PvE’ wasn’t worth a fake $1 bill.
