Dauntless reveals the details of its Founder’s Packs

12
This is the world we live in and I don't like it.

Admit it, you knew that Dauntless would have Founder’s Packs. That’s just the nature of the beast these days, even in a game all about slaying enormous beasts and using their body parts to slay larger beasts. So what really matters is what you get when you purchase those packs, and the development team has helpfully put together a breakdown of what you get when you buy into the game ahead of time.

At the lowest tier, you’ll be getting beta access, 90 days of Champion status (getting you more materials from each behemoth you slay), a care package with potions, a special flare, and unique icons for the forums. The next tier up also includes dyes and transmog stones for costuming purposes, while the highest tier includes pre-beta access, Patron status instead of Champion status, and your name in the credits. It’s up to you if any of this is enough to entice you into paying for the game when you haven’t yet played it.

So you need to create an account to even see the prices? That always strikes me as a bit cheesy.

Yeah, the prices are $39.99 for Slayer, $69.99 for Hero, and $79.99 for Founder (marked down from $99.99).

So is this game basically a non-PvP version of Evolve? IE: 4 players vs an AI (instead of a 5th player).

Is the gameplay basically one where you take your 4 characters into a “zone” to hunt down a specific beast, and then rinse and repeat?

Or is there an actually fully fledged game here, with a world to explore, towns to visit, an actual linear storyline, etc etc?

with all due repsect.. if you are going to ask if this is comparable to evolve or whether or not it has towns and an open world, you are clearly not the target audience..

From its initial announcement, anyone who gives even a ounce of shit about this game knows EXACTLY what it is modeled after.

It is a western love child of Monster Hunter. Period

1. I have never played monster hunter. I know OF it, but thats it.
2. The official press release calls out THREE games by name. Dark Souls, Monster Hunter, and World of Warcraft. Why would one believe that this was just a western copy of only Monster hunter, going off that info?
3. If the target audience is only ex-monster hunter players, then thats pretty sad. I would think they would target anyone who might enjoy this type of game, regardless of if they played Monster Hunter.

So… continuing on… In Monster Hunter, was it an open world? Were there towns you could go into? Was there an overall story line you followed?

From the press release
“We’ve taken inspiration from games like Dark Souls, Monster Hunter, and World of Warcraft to create a new, gripping gaming experience.””

To me, both Dark Souls and WoW both have worlds you can explore, and story lines to follow, in addition to coming across boss enemies you have to defeat.

Which is why Im asking if there is more to this game than just:

1. Form group in some “hub” location
2. Pick up random mission to kill XYZ monster
3. Teleport to instanced off, semi small location
4. Hunt said Monster/target
5. Loot kill, upgrade stats, and gear
6. Rinse, repeat

(and FYI, Evolve is basically steps 1-4 and 6. Step 5 is the only thing Evolve didnt really have)

Your initial snarky comment suggested you were rather searching for a confirmation bias as opposed to a genuine inquiry. Use google, there is plenty of information about this game and the series of which this game was heavily inspired by.

Its not exclusively for the monster hunter crowd, but there is a very big demand for a more accessible Monster hunter experience than what is currently on offer exclusively via nintendos limited reach.

Reading his and your post Threevo, the only one that came across as snarky or obnoxious to me was yours.

Why tell someone to go google it when this site is here to inform people with the comment section being part of that whole inform thing?

agemyth 😩

I love to found things!

I’m interested in the game, but unless I win one of these in a MassivelyOP contest/stream giveaway I’m not interested.

I bought in. I’ve been intrigued since the initial reveal. Hoping for a PC Monster Hunter/ Phantasy Star Online hybrid.
