Long ago when we were between MMOs, my guild went through several months of playing a new game every week thanks to the magic of free trials. But what if you wanted to do that and don’t already have a guild? In fact, what if you wanted to tour the best available MMORPGs in the modern era but didn’t want to have to find a new guild every time you switched?
That’s where the MMO Book Club can help. Like a real book club, this little Reddit community is selecting a new MMO every three months by popular vote and then heading in en masse, using the experience to discuss the game across Reddit and Discord
The first vote selected Lord of the Rings Online, and the whole thing kicks off on May 1st. The organizers have weekly events planned, including crafting and dungeoning nights.
May we recommend Justin’s recent LOTRO Legendarium: A guide to starting fresh in Lord of the Rings Online?

I can quickly see this getting infiltrated by sketchy mmo influence marketers who push votes towards mmo’s that pay them for the effort.
Yeah, I suspect they’ll have to go to a more closed form of voting the next time around.
Ceder, yep, sadly I could see that happening.
This is a great idea, let’s just hope we (devs/pubs + players) don’t muck it up.
What a really cool idea!
I’m in.
Or you could do a utube search for streamers that do this . You can get a good idea if you would like a game by seeing it being played. Just another option.
I dont think I could make it through the Moria chapter again.
Eh, sounds okay… if you want to hop through the current offerings. Maybe if more MMOs offered something more to inspire me.
I thought this was a great idea and then rushed off to Reddit to sign up… but once again, the formatting of that site is truly awful and makes me cringe. The only way I can ever find anything I want on Reddit is via Google so I can’t really see being able to keep up there. Oh well. It was a nice idea anyway.
Never had problems navigating or searching at reddit
Oddly enough, first thing I did was decided to try this (as I don’t normally use Reddit.) Search… was down/overloaded. XD
Highly recommend the Reddit Enhancement Suite if you’re a Chrome user… can help you organize how it all looks (and hide crap you don’t need) quite a bit.
Great idea. But who gets to show up and be the one who only read the back cover. What’s the MMO equiv to that?
I joined a club, and never got out of the starting area…
Given how it seems that the Massively community, in general, doesn’t really care for reddit, I feel this is probably the opinion of most after reading this: “Finally, reddit does something right for once!”
Nonsense. Reddit is, quite literally, what you make of it.
I use Reddit every day, for work and fun. Just stay away from the dark alleys and ignore the gaming trolls. <3
I’ll admit, it is odd that the thing most everyone going to Reddit should probably avoid is the starter frontpage they present you with when you first go there. :D
Haha, totally true!
MUDs fans from reddit been doing that for few years now. Not in form of guild though, but they did vote and chose MUD to play
