If you’ve wanted to get back into EverQuest II but felt overwhelmed by how far behind the curve you’d be, it’s your lucky fortnight! Now you can be totally overwhelmed by all the max-level skills instead! With yesterday’s launch of GU103 The Menagerie, Daybreak is offering all players free boosts to level 100. And this gift isn’t just for All-access members: From now until May 23rd at 2:59 a.m. EDT, anyone with an account created before April 20th, 2017, can log in and claim a free bauble that will grant 100 levels, 320 AAs, and a set of ready-to-wear gear. Brand-new accounts can also get the bauble if they subscribe. That boost will definitely come in handy if you want to participate in the new update as well as the latest expansion!
EQII’s GU103 update offers new quests (the Kunark Ascending epilogue quest and a new heritage quest), introduces familiars (unique pets that bestow powerful buffs), and opens up the first cooperative competition zones (accessed via the multi-server battlegrounds server). Called Proving Grounds, these first limited-time experiences are Race to Completion challenges, pitting two groups against each other to see who finishes first. First up is Battle for Felwithe, running until May 16th. The second, Battle Upon the High Seas, will then go from May 16th through the 23rd.

And now to decide on a class.. Any mage probably, i got mid leveled Warlock and Wizard so far and probably gonna pick one of those.. Illusionist don’t seem to be as cool as the Enchanter was in EQ1.
I think its just too old for me, gah. Tried giving this a shot by watching a recent Youtube video and nope!
I used to love EQ2 so much. Coming back from each break left me feeling further behind. There’s so much content, so much to get lost in, so much to learn… I’m tempted to try again with a 100 boost. I might do that just to see how badly lost I am at that level!
Ahh yes, the new familiars that give stats that you can buy in the cash shop. Even the best variation is buyable from the cash shop, if you get lucky enough to get it from the familiar loot crate. Good thing they capped crit bonus so they can sell pets with crit bonus overcap for cash.
This game got on a rocket ship downward ever since SOE turned into Daybreak. Its a shame too since “Alter of Malice” signified a huge upswing in content and game design quality.
While I agree with the cash shop issue, part of me doesnt blame them. At this point I want daybreak to make some money to keep in operation, the last thing many of us want is for EQ1/2 to close down. If i have to stomach B2W cash shop items to keep the lights on, I can live with it.
Want some real cash shop amusement look up how Ascension spell upgrades have to be actually accomplished. Raiders have had a lot of money sucked out of them.
Given the buggy mess that the Proving Ground is currently maybe the best thing for them is to close up shop on EQ2. Lets face it they cannot code, there testing is a joke and there is no trust left between the community and the developers at all.
I love this game. Community may be smaller than Wows but it really is one of the most mature and friendly. The boost is really surprising. I will use it on one of my lvl 90 characters. This is the best PVE mmo. The game just has so much content. So many races and classes to chose from. And the housing and crafting is one of the best. Being a veteran player from game launch myself. The game gives me so much stuff for free and my account as a f2p for now is locked in the silver status which they don’t do anymore. This is one mmo i will always have on my PC even when i take breaks from it.
I might try it just for giggles but I still have level 60ish chars to run around.
They gave a free level 85 a year or so ago and I reinstalled and accepted it gladly. But what I discovered was, the game was already finished for that character. Nothing was worth tackling, quests were all far beneath me, enemies cringed in fear at my approach and dared not attack.
I felt like a ghost walking through a landscape. I learned then that a max level character, without the “journey”, is of little worth.
Which is why I don’t usually use these level boosts on established characters. I feel it will trivialise a character I’ve spent a ton of time leveling up. If I do use a boost, it will be on a completely new character, but even then I don’t feel right doing it.
I’m going to take advantage for the ability to stream another class most likely. if nothing else, I shall claim it and it shall sit there all pretty on my character page! Iz free schtuffs!
Seems a bit backward – “feel overwhelmed by being behind the curve? Here is a boost so you can feel even more overwhelmed by stats, abilities, mechanics, and the path ahead”
The last time they did one of these to 95 I think (?) I was an active subber and player of EQ2 so knew the ropes a bit. Even so I picked a boost for something that I hadn’t tried before and god was it a lot to take in. EQ2 is not known at all for a lack of skills or the need for multiple skill bars.
So yeah this would be a bit rough to take on now after being away from the game for two years or so.
Yeah, I had a similar experience, but I hadn’t played for about a year. So I made a character using a race/class combo I hadn’t ever tried before, logged in and almost immediately thought, ‘What have I gotten myself into?’ :D Went running back to character select in shame. :D
Some people want to see new content. But I agree: Trying a max class is like jumping into the deep end with a set of weights tied around your ankles =D I should have added the line (Now you can be overwhelmed by all your max level skills instead!)
O sweet! Bree let me add it =D <3
Glad I could help ;)
Yah I just tend to have less….quips in my news posts than many. I should go ahead and run free with them. Worst-case scenario Bree edits them out, right?
My promo email says May 22nd, although maybe they localised that for Europe (where I am) or something.
What MJ wrote is the same as the email when you do the timezone math: May 23rd 2:59 AM (02:59) Eastern is the same as May 22nd 11:59 PM (23:59) Pacific. (3 hours time difference)
Yah, that. We always adjust for Eastern time to keep the site in one uniform time zone.
I thought it might be something like that, thanks guys. :)
Bummer really, Central time is the best time [zone]. *pokes tongue out* :P
