Elite Dangerous

We’ve known since last year that Elite Dangerous was going to set up camp on the PlayStation 4 in Q2 of this year. As of this morning, we know exactly when: June 27th.

“Frontier Developments, a leading independent creator of video games, is pleased to announce that Elite Dangerous will make its debut on the PlayStation 4 computer entertainment system on 27 June 2017. Digital pre-orders are available from today in Europe and will be available later this month in the United States. In addition to a worldwide digital launch there will be simultaneous availability in leading physical retail stores in major territories of the Elite Dangerous Legendary Edition boxed disc for both PlayStation 4 and Microsoft’s Xbox One.”

Frontier notes that players shouldn’t expect crossplay: You’ll “share the same background simulation, but you won’t be able to cross play directly with Commanders on other platforms.”

Another hugely dishonest trailer from Frontier.

For a true picture of how slow, grindy and boring the gameplay is, try this instead “Elite Dangerous Official Trailer with added honesty” .

I hope that once Frontier have got done with the PS4 launch they will remember to tell the players what 2.4 is going to entail. At this point the silence is not going down too well with the forums goers or the reddit folks and I must admit that the radio silence is a bit unsettling.

Mixed feelings. I own it on PC and have only spent a few hours on it because I find it too similar to EVE and equally as boring. Maybe if it goes on sale or has a good price I’ll give it another shot.
STO is a much more fun game IMO but the combat and menu navigation really suffer with a controller. Just too complicated and the auto execute script they put in to make it work takes away the thrill of the space combat. STO is actually better on PC than console.

I ‘d say the difference is in EVE you feeling like the ship commander, in Elite you feel like the pilot. STO is a bit of a different feel altogether :)

I really enjoy the time I spend in Elite, but I find it works best when I keep that time limited. I find it’s a better game when I’m looking one frameshift jump ahead, or one asteroid mine ahead. The moment I look up and see the grind needed for a Federal Corvette, I lose the will to play.

I would say a much more accurate description of what EVE is like is you control a minion from 3rd person. The game feels nothing like being any sort of pilot or commander.

Console players now have STO and ED… I forget is NMS for console too?

yeah NMS is on PS4 and PC and NMS did not go down to well with people. Murray basically kept lying about stuff and when the game finally dropped it was extremely underwhelming.

ED was designed to be on consoles anyway, it just came later

So I must have missed this was coming to console. I’ve stopped really paying attention to games that aren’t console. Now this is coming and all I know about it is it takes place in space…

It’s on Xbox One already so already on console, depending on which one you have :)

Perhaps the main thing to know about it is that all the trailers involving lots of shooting and action are pretty much hogwash. There’s a lot less action than implied and a lot of the game is chilled-out travelling amongst the stars listening to ambient music and admiring the view. You can go and find a fight, of course, and pirates will come looking for you if you’re hauling valuables, but it’s not a full-on action game as the trailers would suggest.

The sound design is excellent and I love the look and feel of the ships. The route to better ships is one hell of a grind though, so it’s not a game to try to rush through, more one to just enjoy playing.

Thank you!

That isn’t at all accurate. You can go 100% combat/excitement from day one. You can also do non-combat stuffs, too. It is your choice.

If you want an arcade-action game, ED isn’t for you. ED is a base-sim and that means a lot of grinding and simply being in the world.

ED is a game by space nerds and for space nerds. If you’re not a space nerd don’t bother. You’ll find it boring.
