The Stream Team: A very volcanic ARK adventure

Have you ever climbed a volcano? Massively OP’s MJ has. But she’s never climbed into a volcano. Thanks to ARK, she’s getting to cross that off her bucket list — at least the virtual one. Today’s the day MJ is diving into the new volcano. Hopefully she will be able to go more than a couple steps into that dungeon there. What will she find when she gets inside? You’ll have to join us live at 12:00 p.m. to see!

What: ARK: Survival Evolved
Who: MJ Guthrie
When: 12:00 p.m. EDT on Saturday, May 27th, 2017

The show is over now, but we’ve embedded it here just for you. Don’t forget to check out past streams and playlists posted to our videos collection!

Just spawning in the admin stuff for this really makes it look worthless.

First you gotta get yourself a good water dino, preferably a Basilosaurus these days. Baryonyx is a great tame to do this with (and comes in handy later) to handle manta spawns. Any Basilo around 50 will do at first, but eventually you want as high as you can get. Using this Basilo is key for the western underwater cave as well as eventually farming Squids since you will need their tentacles.

Then you gotta run dungeons like Caverns of Lost Faith (western underwater) for about a month or so before you get a really nice journeyman/Mastercraft Rex saddle that’s craftable pre-Replicator. You can run a few others, but this is the one I find the least of a headache. You also need to keep running it to look for a Mastercraft/Ascended saddle for later.

Then you need to spend weeks/months trying to find Rexes with amazing HP and Damage stats. We’re talking (150 official servers) 12k+ base HP and 400%+ melee. You gotta breed them out raising your baby Rexes to get two amazing dinos that can breed out eggs like that constantly. After that you can start generating “super” Rexes imprinting on them as much as humanly possible (for the 30-40% stat boost).

Now begins the pain, after you got around 20 of those you gotta go level each one for about 1-4 hours a piece just running around killing everything you see. 100% non-stop murder to level them up. You can bypass this by using a tribe mate with narcotics, however, with you riding the dino and the tribemate crafting as it would give all the shared XP you get to the dino instead.

Next you gotta go get yourself a cave dino and kinda repeat the breeding process so you can quickly and easily run caves. I prefer a Baryonyx as it’s narrow to fit in almost all caves, can jump, and has large AOE that when backing up takes on all comers. It’s also nasty in water and helps initially getting that Basilo mentioned above. Once you get a good set of those you can again power level them up for good stats, my Baryonyxes have 10k HP and 600% melee at this point.

Then we get to another “awesome” part, artifact running. Each time you gotta go down and grab the artifact. The issue here is, of course, the caves respawn reasonably fast so you will be clearing it each time but also there are many bugs that will sometimes just randomly teleport you up to the surface. You can only get one each time so if you are solo then that means a lot of trips depending how many bosses you want to run. If you’re element farming (easy/med broodmother) that’s a lot of pack/hunter/massive.

Finally you are ready to take on bosses. Easy Broodmother is, actually, fairly easy we did her without much effort with Journeyman Saddles and Rexes that were only 20k/500% with 2 Daedons healing. This gives you a Tek Replicator which, after you run her 6 more times, you can build and start making really good Saddles. Megapithicus is a bit harder but 20 good Rexes with good saddles should be able to carry you through with custom food, mastercraft Fur (fishing or deep sea crates), and a good set of rifles. Dragon is supposed to be okay but I haven’t tried it yet.

After all that, THEN you can do this cave on easy. When you go in you will lose everything you bring with you so bringing in lots of Rexes/etc just means they are going to die so it will munch a lot of resources. Higher difficulties can contain Gigas.
