The final PlayStation 3 has rolled off of the assembly lines

Well, bye...

So long to the PlayStation 3, it seems; after a decade of manufacturing, the final edition of the console has been made, and the production line has been shut down. There will be no more PS3 units. It doesn’t compare to the 15 years of its immediate predecessor’s manufacture, but it’s still a lengthy history, and it also marks the end of the line for a console that’s hosted more than a few MMOs.

Of course, several titles that have been on the console have waved farewell before this point; Destiny left the console some time ago, while Final Fantasy XIV is discontinuing support for the hardware with its Stormblood release in June. DC Universe Online is still playable on the console, but it can also be played on the PlayStation 4 or the Xbox One if you’d prefer to remain off of the PC. It shan’t ultimately stop you from enjoying your favorite games, in other words, but it does mean a goodbye to a long manufacturing run for a pretty big entry in the online play arena.
