In today’s 20.1.2 patch, LOTRO starts to make some adjustments that will ripple out to the expansion: “We have done some large back-end work on rating contribution calculations to allow us to prepare for the Mordor expansion, which will include a level cap increase. These changes impact the way percentage stats are determined, such as finesse, block, parry, evade, critical chance, critical defence, mitigations, masteries, and resistance. These changes should have relatively little effect on your current stats, and were made to make it easier for us to update and manage these values long into the future.”
The patch also returned the cash shop to the game (rather than an external browser), made the 10th anniversary fireworks a bit more awesome, and brought back an anniversary vendor in Bree for any tokens you have sitting around.
I remember lots of people saying that the game would end before it ever reached Mordor . Now it looks like it will go beyond the events in the book. Good for them .
My only concern is that having an anniversary vendor in her will interfere with Bree’s work on the site.
Very very interested to see their avatar upgrades they have been talking about.
Would also really, really like to see a visual upgrade to the GUI – just the skill bar and bag icons would really help.
Ah thanks for timemachine. For a moment i ported to 2008 :)
Moria, Mordor, whatever, right? All dark places filled with orcs in this timeline.
If it starts with an ‘M’, it’ll have mobs in it.
In typical SSG/Turbine fashion…another botched update. Looking at the forums, game is crashing/disappearing and the store isn’t working. Good stuff.
Store is working for me. Client works though i had 1 CTD
Two separate issues it looks like.
1. People on newer operating systems had trouble due to SweetFX. Fix by uninstalling SweetFX.
2. Folks on XP/Vista, the new in-game store browser is causing the crash. They’re fixing it soon. Also…maybe let’s not continue running outdated operating systems that even Microsoft doesn’t support anymore….heh.

It goes a bit deeper than just two separate issues. It looks like some of the “back end” work they are doing in prep for the expansion (stats, etc.) is negatively affecting current end-game game play.
I was addressing the two issues you mentioned in your comment (“game is crashing/disappearing and the store isn’t working”). Stats tuning (which I’m sure will need to be watched at end game) isn’t going to effect crashes/store problems I would imagine.
Surely a bit late to lay the foundation for an expansion that was released almost 10 years ago? :P
I was like, they’re updating Moria too?!
Moria had a great end-of-beta event though, with the devs running around as creeps. Huge battle just before the bridge where Gandalf and the balrog fell. (one of the devs knocked me over the edge too)
I’ve never jumped off the Bridge of Khazad-dum. But for some sick reason I really want to do that :)
Canon says you’ll land in water so go for it :)
Actually, you can’t fall all the way down anymore. You die in mid-air now before you get that far.
Looking forward to it.
