Check out Secret World Legends’ new combat revamp video

Ready or not, The Secret World’s Secret World Legends revamp is coming this summer, and that means the combat changes, including the reticle combat options that are expected to make the game feel more action-based and dynamic.

“In addition to moving from traditional MMO tab-targeting to a more action-inspired reticule mode, each of Secret World Legends’ nine weapons features entirely new and unique mechanics that are sure to keep even the most experienced players on their toes,” declares Funcom — that includes genuinely chaotic chaos magic and shotguns that don’t need an ammo reload.

The studio’s got a new video out covering the combat with new footage — check it out below.

I guess I still just don’t understand why this couldn’t have been done to the base game. I don’t buy what Funcom is selling in that regard.

yes, continually mystified why a deeper, richer game is abandoned and so much work put into a Lite version rather than making changes in the deeper, richer game. It’s a puzzler, that.

I’m still not entirely convinced, but if the the combat becomes less of a chore than it was, it will open up the story to a lot of people who didn’t have the patience to level the game into some of the newer areas (like, I dunno … me?). I’ll give it a look.

I gotta admit, now that I see everything in the UI and the description of how the different weapons work, it doesn’t sound all that bad. I’m still not sure if reticle-based combat was the right decision, but I’m willing to give them the benefit of the doubt.

I’ll definitely be trying it out when it releases.

To be honest I’ve been thinking about immersion mostly (MMO part was not that much alive to begin with). First-person look will do it for new guys. When you see it birds-eye view it’s not that much of an impact. Once you are there first-person you are in horror show. Also less people in the area helps.

To be honest I do not envy those agents we play: kinda lonely, scary and dangerous. Bless the bees, heh.

And over-the-shoulder view will do nice for close combat. Works in other games. I wonder what combos will work best and what to choose. Damn, I’d like a run in this beta to figure out how things are to start smooth launch. Oh, well. :)

[brain to self] “the story Melt, the story…that’s what you love about The Secret World…nothing else matters”

TBH I really don’t care…it’s not shutting down (win) and FC, well, I wasn’t expecting anything earth shattering even though I’d be lying if a little piece of my soul ‘wished’ for earth shattering. But FC has just never been that company peeps say ‘FC, damn, they always nail the combat’

Unfortunately the running animations still sucks.

I wish they’d make some of the auxiliary weapons like whips and chainsaws into full fledged weapon paths.

No joke. I want to use the Whip as one of my primary weapons.

In a world where you can fight vampires and zombies and all sorts of creatures of mythology and evil, not being able to kill them with a whip as a primary weapon is a travesty.

A salted whip? (Warlock reference)

I’m looking forward to this one. Every other recent game seems to be either ruined with p2w or stuck in a nebulous eternal early access state. It’ll certainly be fun for a while at the very least.

amusingly all I see from this vids is a game ruined by both of those
