Overwatch begins booking trips to the moon on June 20

Next week Joe and Jane Gamer can secure their own ticket to the moon itself — granted that they are playing Overwatch. Blizzard is opening the airlock to its Horizon Lunar Colony on June 20th, and the team couldn’t be more excited about it. It’s the first map that the studio has built for the game that is 90% indoors.

Citing both a strong character hook and story hook, the devs said that the lunar colony was at the top of their most-desired locations list. The map allows players to visit the origin of Winston, the super-intelligent gorilla, and get some insight into what went on at this remote science facility. Of course, how much lore you’re going to soak up while bunny-hopping your way at lightning speeds down corridors is debatable.

“We were always inspired by the fact that Overwatch was a universe future enough and expanded enough that there could be a colony on the moon,” said Game Director Jeff Kaplan. Get a full map preview after the jump!

Now that people are effectively buying tickets to the moon from Space X your title could be considered misleading. Also that would be way cooler than a moon map I MO ;)

Yeah, enjoy the story-related map details, while being fragged! ;P

Heh as true as that may be, i really do enjoy the lore bits. Imo it differentiates it from other games, gives it an identity. I’m excited to see more lore comics/cinematics.

It feels like such a waste of invested ressources!

If only they had some more narrated maps (but not put explicitly for ranking matches, of course), like instead of a faceless payload, you have to escort an important political figure (or their motorcade) out of harm, just like the one in the cinematic!

Who knows, maybe they’ll lean that way! I’m confident that the team is ready to push the genre as far as they can, and i’m perfectly ok with that.

Well some people create custom Roleplay game matches. Where everyone inside is either just checking out the map, hanging out or sometimes they are Roleplaying.

I never tried one except to just look at the maps, but I could see this one being a good one to explore

If only they would allow modding too, just like the original Team Fortress 2!

I had some hilarious times in those crazy custom maps, where roleplaying was also observed and with easily more possibilities!
