World of Warcraft loses its lead PvP designer to another Blizzard project

The man who pushed for World of Warcraft’s PvP scene to become bigger and better than before is no longer leading the team. Lead PvP Designer Brian Holinka announced on the forums that he is leaving WoW to work on an unnamed Blizzard project.

“A few weeks ago, I was offered a new opportunity at Blizzard that I’m really excited about,” Holinka posted. “Tomorrow is my last day working on World of Warcraft. As a longtime player, I couldn’t be more excited about what the future has in store for World of Warcraft. In particular, the PvP team remains hard at work on some incredible plans. I fully expect that the best years of World of Warcraft PvP are ahead of us.”

Holinka thanked both fans and the company, saying that working on World of Warcraft was a “dream come true.” The rumor is that he has been snatched up by the internal team that’s creating a top-secret game or expansion for the studio.

On the other hand, I can certainly come up with one praise:

He presided over IMO a very useful thing for PvP and PvE: PvP only talents. No need to for a PvP buff/nerf to affect PvE or vice versa. It used to suck to be a raider whose class was OP in PvP;

Well I’m excited as this means new stuff from Blizz. I think they need to move on from (just quietly). WoW may not be a dead game but its sure as hell been dead inside since WoD. Just yesterday I started up and cancelled my sub and noticed the amount of questions and (seemingly) desperation in what they were willing to ask and do to keep you in the game also my once thriving pvp guild was absolutely dead. They had a good thing with WoW but i get the impression its been squandered due to out of date thinking; You gotta make your game fun more so than manipulative I feel.

And another one exits and almost with the same exit message. I’m starting to think they’ve got a standard form they fill in.

LOl, I remember Holinka, what a piece of garbage. He is the reason wow’s PVP sucks so much.

Thinking back, its been nearly 8 years since I played wow. I would bet is sucks now as it did back then.

Edit: Still, good to see someone that came on board and then screw up a part of the game finally get fired and moved, which is what happened. Looked at the forums about this guy, no one likes him (the majority) or his ideas and balancing acts.

It does suck just as much. They gradually removed the hunter’s minimal range to the point he’s in your face and shooting you with Arcane Shot and whatever hunters now have.

WoW was only good in Vanilla and TBC. I’m still playing Vanilla.

Great time to move on … when Wow pvp is at it’s highest and most successful peak!

Sorry, threw up on my mouth a little.

Sure feels like WoW has lost quite a few of their bigger name devs over the past few years, either to other companies, retirement, or other teams.

Reminds me of when I used to PvP in WoW… he logged out in mid-battle, leaving my team down a man.

well their other games’ pvp is relatively well balanced compared to the fotm paradigm of wow so i hope he doesn’t screw up a different game.

human racial in arenas says hi.

Heh, yeah the human racial has always been an unbalanced ability to have in pvp.
