Tale of Toast impresses one YouTuber despite hardcore aspirations

By now, you probably know and have accepted the weird juxtaposition of Tale of Toast’s incredibly cute art style and its hardcore design. But how do those flavors mix together in practice? HiveLeader, a prominent MMO YouTuber, made it a mission to find out.

Jumping into the MMO’s alpha weekend test, HiveLeader found a small but ambitious game that really impressed him. He notes that it’s an unforgiving game that leans heavily on mandatory grouping (without a LFG tool, even), but that there’s a lot of fun, polish, and character flexibility that makes it worth the hassle.

You can watch his early impressions below!

Glad to see more from The Hive Leader here on Massively. I utterly adore his videos and watch stuff from him that I will never ever play, just for the entertainment value.
Tale of Toast really looks interesting, sadly the Login server monster wouldn’t allow me in during the last alpha test. Not that I tried very hard… but I’ll keep an eye on the game.

Wow youtub commenters, i wish to comment their but i know youtube “community”, the lack of Auction House is a good thing, but i guess people are so used to this feature they think anyt game does not have it means the game is “old” and backward.

Meh … good luck for the developers, make more evil mushrooms :-D

If this small team can make a game like this, they could certainly make something along the lines of a 3d Glitch and have a ready and waiting audience. Lose the damn PvP because there’s far too much of that already and plenty of places for those people to go. Make PvE if you must but make some cooperative things and a vibrant economy and I’ll play.

I like his videos. He needs to have a bigger audience.

That landscape looks very familiar!

“He needs to have a bigger audience.”

TBH I’m surprised he doesn’t considering the vast amount of total shit on YT with larger audiences

MMOs are a niche area and there are a decent number of big names who’ll jump into the major hypey games to give their impressions and reviews.

Not only that but people can just go to watch people play it live on Twitch. Basically it’s an area that’s gonna be difficult to get a large audience with.

Like even getting 50k views on the regular would be a feat.

He used to post here all the time.

Yeah he was a regular commenter often posting his first impression videos in the comments section of applicable games. Then he let it get to his head when he got to do the Project Gorgon kickstarter video and became too cool for comments. (Joking :p)

“By now, you probably know and have accepted the weird…”

Or this would be the first time I’ve ever heard of the game at all.

I envy you. I myself just can’t accept it. I’ve been up for days trying to come to grips with it.

There are four whole posts with Tale of Toast tagged on them on MOP. How could you have missed those other three times this game was written about?

Git gud at visiting this website.
