The tournament for Blade & Soul is getting ready to kick off, but it needs a prize. That’s where the community comes in, because the prize isn’t just being tossed into the ring arbitrarily by NCSoft, it’s being funded by the community. Players who purchase the Heart of the Golden Lotus pack or the Golden Lotus chest will contribute more money to the prize pool, with the ultimate goal set at a $400,000 prize for tournament participants.

The funding also has stretch goals; the more funds are raised during this period, the more costumes will be unlocked after funding is completed on July 19th. So purchasing the Heart of the Golden Lotus pack gets you some costumes now and the promise of more costumes once everything is said and done. There are even more milestone costumes if funding manages to exceed its target; it’s currently sitting at 26% funded, so you’re invited to make your own predictions about how high it’ll go.

esports.bladeandsoul.com… Well, that’s one I didn’t expect to get an esports push. I won’t pretend to have a real opinion on the game as I don’t play it, but I wish them the best in their endeavors if this is what a serious part of the community is into.

Well, I hope it gets fully funded.

A couple of things that come to mind though, the cynic in me is quick to knee jerk and say that this is just another cost being passed down to the players. But, we always paid for the torneys and prizes. Such things have come for revenue from our pruchases so, meh, nothing has changed.

I do appreciate that this type of thing is becoming a community wide thing. It will generate more interest and many of our local and regional competitors will get more support. I think it is a great idea.

The goals seem to be to aggressive in the west though. I could be wrong, but we will see.
