LOTRO Players posted its initial impressions of the race, which will be able to roll every class except for Beornings and Burglars. High Elves look slightly different (particularly their hair) and have several useful racial skills, such as a revive and an out-of-combat run speed boost.
The premium race also boasts a new introduction, with the High Elves fighting as part of the First Alliance way back in the Second Age. An untimely wound by a Nazgul blade results in the player character being taken to Rivendell for a long period of recuperation, leading to the present era.
Check out the High Elf character creator after the break, and stay tuned for our LOTRO Legendarium column later today!

I miss my oval headed characters in LOTRO. Its nice to see I will have some new options of making more oval headed elves!
Unless it changes, its certainly not going to be a feature worth reporting on. In passing you won’t be able to see any real difference.
This is a cool addition to a great game; I wonder if a High-Elf ranger plays different from a Elf ranger.
Wow I have been so looking forward to High Elves but this is pretty underwhelming, I hope they really do keep working on it. I am not as familiar with Lord of the Rings as some of the other readers but I would think they would be even more elfish than actually be more like humans.
Er, Legolas and Elrond are example names? Neither was a high elf. And wasn’t Galadriel just about the only high elf seen in the books? And if that revive ability is usable in instances and/or in combat, it’s game breaking.
Glorfindel was also a High Elf. You’re right about the names. I think Turbine is getting lazy.
Getting? lol
It’s still on the test server, for all we know it will have new naming info once it hits live.
Well technically Elrond was and was much more. The father was Earendil the Mariner and the mother was Elwing the White. Earendil the son of Tuor of the third house of Edain and Idril Celebrindal daughter of Turgon the high elven king of Gondolin. His mother Elwing was the daughter of Dior son of Beren of the first house of Edain and Luthien Tinuviel daughter of Thingol Greycloak and Lady Melian of the Valar.
So you got a couple types of elf (Noldor and Sindar) , couple types of man (first and third house of Edain) and a gawd like being in the Valar that he and his twin brother Elros sprung from. So I think you might be playing a bit loose with the “game breaking” word play there.
So he is an elf….
Johin Cenariel of Valinor.
Remember that facial visuals are not finished yet
I suspect these will continue to be tweaked as we get closer to Mordor to address some of the more obvious concerns, but I think it’s a good start. Looking forward to starting fresh with a high elf captain and runekeeper combination!
Suddenly, I prefer these faces to existing ones: at least they look not arrogant, but wise (because of the knowledge – memory of all the centuries they carry, heh). Yet, they still need to work on their haircuts, at least for ladies.
Hmm yeah let us hope that isn’t the final build options they intend to launch with and this is just a work in progress. If not the starter zone had better be elfing amazing :-)
