Armored Warfare announces Eye of the Storm expansion

This morning we had a lively discussion in the Massively OP office over whether or not Armored Warfare had ever actually launched. We thought it had, considering all of its releases to date, but in doing some research, we determined the game has simply existed in a soft-launch open beta state since October 2015.

Beta or no, the vehicle PvP game is getting ready to roll out a huge summer expansion called Eye of the Storm. Update 0.21 will add a new Panama Canal map for players to fight over and toss in Czechoslovak and Polish progression vehicles to add more spice to the combat front.

In addition to these headlining features, Eye of the Storm has plenty of smaller, but welcome, changes. These include economy changes that “justly reward” players, garage UI improvements, graphical upgrades, ammunition fixes, and revamps to the Narrows and Roughneck maps.

Take a closer look at the Panama Canal waterway map below!

“the vehicle PvP game”
Hey its not just PvP, I only play in the PvE missions! :)

a bit before my time, but Jimmy Carter giving control of the Panama Canal away was a pretty massive strategic mistake. Sink a big ship at the entry and the whole bloody thing is shut down.

How hard would it be to start this game? I kinda feel like doing something new.

It’s just as approachable as WoT (initially), and even has almost the same control layout. I personally enjoy the game quite a lot when I play it (although it’s been more than a year). I understand the PvP battles take some time to queue as the player base is significantly smaller than the WoT gorrilla in the room. There is a healthy PvE game, however, that can be enjoyed at any time. This game basically covers the era of armoured warfare from just before where WoT leaves off…all the way up to the most modern weapon systems.

Personally, I don’t get why it’s gotten such a small audience beyond the fact that I’ve never seen advertisements for it.

IMO, the style of play that you get with AW feels much more varied and fast-paced compared with WoT. On top of that the grind doesn’t seem nearly as intimidating and impenetrable as it does in WoT. They even have a daily log in bonus for the game. The only reason I don’t play it anymore is because it seems like the pvp crowd went back to WoT, and while the PVE modes can be challenging, it gets tiring just killing bots and running the same missions in a lobby shooter without that element of variation that player character opponents bring.

It had fun pvp where the littler units actually had a chance and purpose in the game. It looked good and there was always something to upgrade on your units. But now pvp is basically empty used to be able to get a match pretty quickly now im the only one in queue at every level for 10 min at a time and still no one else shows up. Even after the big 2.0 release no one was on. Not sure how viable it is now but it was better than world of tanks.
