ARK: Survival Evolved’s August patches introduce otters, new weapons, and new biomes

So remember back in May when Studio Wildcard intimated it’d be holding off on new ARK: Survival Evolved creatures after that May patch so that it could shore up the existing game ahead of the launch? That resolution lasted all of two months. On Friday, the studio posted a bunch of new bits in its community newsletter, including a new creature: the otter. At least it’s adorable?

A week ago, Wildcard announced a three-week delay for the launch of the game (to August 29th), so presumably the devs had some time to kill. With otters. OK, and also with the extra August patch it teased last week.

“There has been a lot of questions regarding what will happen to the development of ARK. Whether there will be additional content added to the base game, in the vein of; new friends to tame, new engrams to learn, items to craft, QOL, gameplay, and optimisation improvements… the answer to all that is yes! We will be continuing to work on the base game, as well as plans for future content in the form of free updates, and DLC (paid and free).”

Together, the two August patches will introduce the new TEK weapons, new biomes for the massive Ragnarok mod, Titanoboas taming, DDOS mitigation, PC-dedicated console servers on PS4, loading crash fixes, and duping cleanup.
