World of Warcraft shows off the caster animation changes coming in patch 7.3

Casting spells has been a cornerstone of World of Warcraft since the game launched, and while the models and particle effects have gotten better, not much has been done about the actual casting animations themselves. The upcoming patch 7.3 revamps these animations, and a new entry on the official site takes a look at how the animations are being changed, including the new idle stances for the various casters to make their poses look as distinctive as wielding a weapon.

The animations also include different looks for spell effects to distinguish things like Mage frost magic from Shaman frost magic. You can check out a quick look at the animations in the video just below if you’re curious to see everything in action, or you can read through the whole article to understand why Arcane Missiles now looks like fireworks popping on your target. (It still has the four-pronged burst, don’t worry about that part.)

Looks pretty neat.
I think it’s cool that they continue to update the game aesthetically when they don’t really need to.

I jumped back into WoW recently because I missed the dungeons and wanted to work towards flying. Not much has really changed imo, but it’s still fun to play casually.

Man this animations are even worse than the old ones! Impossible to even begin to think about compare this crap with beautiful animations like FFXIV and others. And the greatest failure about wow casting animations stands unchanged, they still ignore totally your weapon!

Still love how using cure or physic on a Lancer before the changes had my weapon levitate a bit if I recall right

FF14 combat animations are meh by their own but compared to WoW Legion animations they are pure garbage. Video doesnt give new animations a fair judgement

Not even close, the worst FF14 animation is miles ahead of wow’s “best” animation, specially the casters. Actually wow have the worst caster animations i’ve seen.

Oh wow, I didn’t notice that. I hope these are just examples and not indicative of what all the casting animations will look like. I mean, I have an orc shaman and I will be fine if he casts his lava bursts like this, but I also have a dwarf priestess that I purposely made with pigtails just because I liked how they flew around when she casts her spells.
