With the high drama and surly community demanding Star Citizen 3.0 already, it’s made for a slightly awkward Gamescom appearance for the crew.
On the show floor, Erin and Chris Roberts were front and center for a live show in which they discussed little else but 3.0. The team is only showing the demo of a single moon at the show, while 3.0 will reportedly span an entire system. There’s a lot of parts that the devs need to finish up and make sure they work well together, such as getting more players into the same server space, character customization, survival mechanics, and ship items.
The team said that it wants “as many [players] as it can” fit on a server at 3.0’s launch, although whatever this cap will be will most certainly increase afterward.
If you’re still wondering what the holdup is with the Alpha 3.0 release, the Star Citizen team devoted this week’s entire Around the Verse show to going point-by-point through the various issues that the team is addressing. Check it out after the jump, and then check back this afternoon at 3 p.m. EDT when Roberts takes the stage for the big presentation.
If 3.0 is actually anything like ready why didnt they demo a mission from 3.0 ?
Because they dont have any and they scripted this mission for the Gamescon funding round.
Yet the mission they showed couldnt be a PU mission because of the way it is designed and of course they couldnt even get a vehicle up a ramp after $152 million and the best part of 6 years in development.
Wake up and smell the coffee and demand more journalistic integrity/skill.
Get as refund before it is too late.
What was taken away from Erin and Chris Roberts interviews, they are tacking another 2 years onto this project. So another 4 years to go? I fully expect pledge funding to begin to slow and a private investor to finish off the rest of the money needed.
Nah, it’s a cult. They’ll give ’till it hurts.
The best part of both of our statements is we get to put them to the test.
ayup! I’m just waiting for the next juicy pixel ship release and see how much it generates.
It’s a $400 ship today infact! Salt/butter or kettle corn? There is a theatre here that serves lightly covered chocolate popcorn. Mixed well with regular popcorn for a sweet and salty mix.
Land O’Lakes butta mit der Salt. I don’t like that weird kettle corn stuff. #OldSchool
She looks vaguely enough like me. Does he look like you? Jesus? (Not that there is anything wrong with that..!) ;)
mm short dark hair, light olive skin, like you. I would like to show you but afraid of ending up on one of Schlag’s gifs, which is usually never good.
not olive here. it’s just lighting. i’m a pasty Scot lol.
Strong minded, stubborn at times and pretty Scot. ;)
this thread cracked me up. also nice hair melissa. looks good on you.
Funding has already slowed down and they are doing deals to sell idiots and gullible young gamers cameras for a feature that wont ever be in a game either.
I do feel somewhat bad for people snookered by SC who dumped money into JPEGs and subscriptions to an unreleased game. I do. But your money is sunk, SC will never be as promised, and white knighting the game in hopes other suckers will provide enough money to compensate for incompetent management won’t help. There is no amount of money, under current management, that won’t be wasted on dead ends and feature creep. Just let it go.
Quote Totes McGoats:”I do feel somewhat bad for people snookered by SC…. to an unreleased game ”
Please refrain to feel something on behalf of backers if you do not understand the basic of crowdfunding :)
Sorry if I feel basic human empathy for people taken in by a conman.
you don’t speak for us.
You neither Deekay_Plus :) And basic of crowdfunding as well as accounting are not opinion…
Just checking the Star Citizen channel: just counting the past 4 weeks (basically August), they’ve produced more than 5 hours of footage explaining how/what they couldn’t get done on time.
Irony?

i’ve seen them say this on stream, but the reality is stanton is advertised as far more than just crusader and it’s 3 moons (including the atmosphere holding daymar apparently finally confirmed as being in after some confusion and vagueries).
which is what 3.0 has been cut back to – the crusader subsystem with it’s moons and various POIs around them including stations and such.
far from teh full stantion system they keep going on about at gamescom.
it kind of reminds me of a comic book where the writer isn’t given the proper editorial oversight to keep his story telling within the established continuity and he keeps haphazardly retconning things or referencing previous events in ways that make no sense if you go back and read the stories the current book is referencing.
except my comic example has 60 years of weekly/monthly content to keep straight and it mostly is kept straight, while CIG need only reference their own major marketting materials from the past year to keep this story straight.
technically speaking it could span a whole system but have the other planets and that locked to go down into like crusader, cant fly into that gas giant…. yet! or hes getting it confused with what it will more feel like
ayyyyyy lmao
hope it release september. going switch to 6c coffee lake from this ryzen shit, nothing but problems with it, send the mother board back again, send the ram back that the motherboard damaged, then get intel, ebay the ryzen crap and be done with it
a week or two ago i resigned myself to not seeing it before citcon if before xmas.
><
i've got a small group of friends primed to explore it on PTU together to scout it out for our respective guilds so we can tell them if it's worth it to reinstall/buy in finally, and said guildies keep asking me about it.
the constant "which backers will get 3.0 very shortly/soon" mantra on the floor demo stream is… hard to take at face value.
well it all comes down to what you and your friends want to do in it. itll be good to have a mess around in but if you want do more i reckon to wait another year till more game systems are in and online
eh last known parameters of 3.0 are good enough for some decent regular short session dicking around in.
the last time i got them in was the end of 2.5 which the bug state of 2.5 combined with the available content left them with a poor impression of things. makes me wish we had done it with 2.6 instead which the planned event (we were gonna do a couple of dogfighters vs 3 or 4 people in a connie) isn’t dependent on pve which is currently not in great shape at all in the PU.
most of the session was wasted with clipping and physics and server stability issues sadly.
we did end up getting a terrible 1v1 with our dogfighters out of it i guess tho. XD
yeah except without the people slamming ships into people for laughs cus you cant just instantly spawn them for free like before has to go through insurance and credits and that stuff.
itll be nice to have the feeling of what the future will be like going from one body to another and landing and checking out levski and stuff. i wont play it much till its much further along cus i dont want get burned out on it.
im back in warcraft and planning on playing sea of thieves and that so there’ll be other stuff to keep me busy.
my general plan is to do more or less what i’ve been doing for the past 3 years or so there’s been any game or client at all and dick around in limited doses now and then semi regularly. with particular checking out new patches major or minor shortly after going live (usually i cba to do ptu but sometimes i do anyway)
only with 3.0 if all goes well with our scouting i’ll be doing it with a few more friends than usually have to dick around in it.
i cant be bothered with PTU, i like watching films and TV atm so i probably game a couple days a week until something juicy like assassin creed origin comes out and that then ill hammer it if i like it till its done.
id like to play 3.0 but its more to see what it looks like than itching to spend a ton of hours in it so wait sucks but it dont matter really in the long term
most videos i’ve seen from other players are heavily romanticized looks at the game compared to my own experiences.
i’ve enjoyed what’s there for the most part over the course of it. but i’m glad i’ve seen it myself rather than rely on others to show it to me becuase their videos generally don’t show the warts (which often i’ve found quite hilarious but often just as frustrating and often session ending).
since 2.6 is out we kind of have made looking at the progression/state/bugginess of things an activity in itself. wether it’s seeing if physics grid transitions are still borked in so many ways or trying to dock ships onto other ships or trying to warp a ship with someone not anchored to a seat or whatever comes to mind based on bugs in older versions.
and having done that i can see the legitimate progress being made which is why i haven’t written the project off nor think it’s a scam or anything like that. becuase you can see substantial and legitimate progress being made, i just wish they’d show us more of that legit progress on our desktops instead of romanticized videos.
yeah but with 3.0 there adding alot of new systems and new tech behind the scenes to make it all work so if they know it doesnt work for them why would they release it to us plus the other major thing to consider is the cost of giving us those updates. should decrease alot with the delta patcher and its peer to peer downloading so its not just using amazon itll get it off us to.
Then they have to lock a build in to give us cus sounds like tons of builds are being built everyday so cant just let us have whatever which requires dev and QA time to give it us so its better in many ways.
Hopefully after the long wait for 3 which is likely what the proper foundation is they can actually stick to the 3 month updates after it releases i.e. 3.1/3.2/3.3/4 in 3 month intervals but i doubt it.
cost of bandwidth is pretty trivial nowadays.
we’ll have to see how 3.x milestones come out, cadence wise. i’m not holding my breath after the 2.6 drought tho. >>
might be trivial if you buy your game then download it once or a few times but if there pushing out like 30GB to people every couple of months for years then that cost per user is going to sky rocket
well that’s where the delta patcher comes in.
but the mitigating factor on that so far is that thusfar only a tiny fraction of backers have even given the game a go for a long time now, as per last comms on that from CIG.
that’s part of why they made the evocati – not enough PTU participation that they wanted. so PTU is kind of more of a less important test environement followed by the general light feedback testing of “live”.
at least it’s been explained to me something like that in the past.
no the Evocati was formed because they found that people were just downloading it logging on having a look then logging off. So it costs them money for the download especially if they have to push multiple versions to fix stuff and then no bugs were being reported by most of the people so they decided to make Evocati for the people that actually play tested the game and submitted bug reports and it wont cost them any where near as much in download costs with the idea they can fix stuff faster.
that was the idea behind that and fair play to them because im one of those people who log in have a look at the start i played for a bit but never submitted any bugs.
ah ok so only a tiny portion play, thats not to bad then. which is fair enough cus its hard to play the same tiny bit of stuff over and over
I have an unlimited cap for the past 5 years now, isn’t it a common practice at this point? I am sure it is in EU.
i dont mean the cost of the user to download it but the amount amazon charge CIG for the download
Oh, I see, I get it.
I got unlimited for 3yrs with Comcast’s gigabit consumer connection, but only because google Fiber moved into this market and they wanted to keep people from leaving ;)
Was a good deal though, I got a netgear Nighthawk 8000 wireless router with the service, it’s blazing fast.
Virgin media has been doing 360 meg connection here in Ireland with no cap, no download size scares me :D
Intel/Nvidia. Accept No Substitutes.
the board blew out the 1st DIMM slot and damaged the ram stick in it. cant get ram to go higher than 2133mhz which is completely useless for ryzen cus it actually needs fast ram to gain fps. i figure im losing 10-15 fps with 2133mhz instead of 3200mhz
