GTAV and GTAO are having a good summer, sitting at the tippy-top of SuperData’s console revenue charts for the last couple of months in spite of the modding fiasco last spring. So why stop there? Rockstar isn’t — it’s launching the Smuggler’s Run update on August 29th.

“With a name that’s a nod to an early classic from the Rockstar Games catalog, Smuggler’s Run opens up the air corridors above Los Santos and Blaine County, providing new business opportunities while introducing a range of planes, choppers and even ultralights as highly viable options for transporting criminal cargo across the state – simultaneously opening up some creative new methods of dispatching any rival gangs along the way. Smuggler’s Run delivers a massive range of new, customizable aircraft perfect for any mission along with expansive new aircraft hangars in which to stash your fleet of fantastic flying machines.”

The studio’s also busy prepping a fall update with vehicle racing, new wheeled vehicles, new competitive adversary modes, and holiday stuff — yep, bonus point for being the first Halloween tease of the year. The new trailer’s down below.

Oh yeah? Does this one come with new heists to do? No? Just more of the same overpriced crap that forces people to buy Shark Cards if they want to be able to have any kind of fun at all with the new content?

I think I am done with GTAV.

i mean there hasn’t been heists for like 3 years and they said years ago heists were too dificult costly and time consuming to produce.

the open world “business” DLCs are extremely profitable on time per money and the older ones have decent start up costs compared to the profitability that very easily pay for the start up costs of the most recent business DLCs.

i’m the only one in my guild who buys shark cards at all, and even the worst with cash spenders in my guild have been able to afford start up costs of each new DLC to own their own businesses.

as well each business DLC is rather profitabl for just helping business owners wether you own a business and helping friends in a cycle like my guild or don’t own a business and helping randoms or friends operate their businesses.

there are certainly gta cash to convenience options in many of these business dlc’s but they’re hardly required and not really worth while given the nature of them vs the gameplay avenues for doing those things.

and with the profit margins of the businesses being what they are the prices of the most expensive items in teh game are fairly well tuned in that context, even for the most ardent of collectors.

Right, with all this other content they keep cranking out with ridiculous price tags attached to the vehicles they want you to buy…do you REALLY believe them when they say that it’s too costly for them to make some Heist DLC’s? Especially when they are reporting hand over fist profits year after year?

I am going to call them on their bullshit.

it’s not that it costs too much cash.

it’s that not enough people utilized that content compared to the dificulty/stress/financial cost/manpower that went into, vs the much wider utilization and positive reception to other kinds of content they produce (and they produce a tonne of it on a very fast cycle – far faster than any other mmo type game in the business, far faster than any non mmo online game in the business).

there’s just a constant stream of new stuff in this game, which stuff with start up costs or purchases associated with it is a very small (but very meaty) portion.

literally just constant new instanced game modes for races/pvp/etc/etc/etc on top of the open world focused businesses, on top of other open world do at will acitivities they’ve added.

it takes a bit of lack of awareness of their content update efforts to get upset that they are somehow pushing shark cards to that degree when the cash cost dlc is a small portion of the constant stream of content update pushes they do constantly.

nevermind a lack of awareness of these business DLC’s like this one that do have some start up costs associated with them.

the only open world focused dlc with costs associated with them that plays into this meme is the VIP yacht thing which was and still is stupid and worthless bling for no good purpose even when it’s heavily discounted which it often is.

there’s very little pressure to buy shark cards if you just play what been added in teh past year and a half solo or with guildies, even just one of them and not more than one. specifically starting with MC or CEO dlc’s. or even just helping randoms/friends with MC/CEO stuff without buying one yourself.

and with those business playing semi regularly and fairly casually you can very easily collect all of the most expensive cars bikes and blingiest houses and so on in due time without feeling pressure to buy shark cards to do so.

will they make more heists? they said no and they said why years ago. just like they explained before gta5 even came out why they won’t do sp dlc like with gta4 for gta5. not enough people actually play them or even like them to justify the effort put in, versus what content they do put out that people actually do play and quite enjoy.

feels way too soon after gunrunning especially with how gunrunning is set up to be a slower burn progression grind compared to past similarish dlc’s that focus on open world play. they really could’ve nad probably should’ve waited on this another month or two to allow active but not no life players to progress through gunrunning.

at this point my group even with lower activity typically can’t get everyone’s sales and resupply missions done in a single 2-5 hour session each day, that’s noting that you won’t have sales every single day for any at all necessarily.

and word of warning, looks like we’ve kind of confirmed that security upgrades for businesses and your bunker actually increases the chances of getting raided. guildie recently finally did his upgrade and noticed a pretty big uptick in raid rates. while i’m still without and get raided at a much lowr frequency even accounting for my more casual play time than anyone else in the guild who plays.
