The Daily Grind: Have you ever gotten kudos on your MMO characters’ outfits?

Look better.

Let’s not lie among ourselves: We all enjoy showing off to others in-game. About half of the reason why we spend so much time acquiring and accessorizing our outfits is in the hopes that others will get whiplash when they see us passing in the street. “Who was that fabulous Dwarf?” they exclaim.

Every once in a while, someone might send me a tell letting me know that they really like my outfit, and it really does make my day. Hopefully not because my ego is so tied up playing virtual dollhouse and more because of the effort I put into mix-and-matching a striking and exciting ensemble.

Have you ever gotten kudos on your MMORPG outfits? Bonus points for sharing pictures of them in the comments!

Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your preferred beverage and take a stab at answering the question posed in today’s Daily Grind!

Kudos for outfits rivaled creating alts in CITY OF HEROES. Atlas Park’s courtyard for city hall was the place for costume contests. I remember getting compliments for my Battle of the Planets costume, both the G-Force one and the numbered civilian one. Costumes were a really fun element of CoH.

That got carried over to the theater in CHAMPIONS ONLINE. Both games were designed for making cool costumes. Some of us even blurred the lines just a tad. ;-)

I got awarded for this in City of Heroes-that-was, and I wasn’t even part of the official costume event! o.O

It looks like a Gobot. That’s a transformers knockoff for those of you who have not heard of the Gobots. :P

Yes. In GW, I used black dyes on some EotN armor with a special mask. It looked unique and black dyes were expensive so that alone gave it a bit of a luxurious look. Got quite a few positive comments about it.

In RIFT I got some random whispers too, but I was never sure whether people actually liked my creative outfit or just the pointy wizard hat that I had not been able to resist grabbing from the cash shop.

In TSW, yes. We had so much stuff to work with and if you could combine an item won in a contest with a couple of pieces that didn’t go with it, you could almost always get a compliment on your appearance.

I used to regularly make it into the final rounds of Atlas Park costume contests in City of Heroes. Then again, those contests were so damn frequent that I think anyone who played for a few months could make the same claim.
