Secret World Legends is bringing back legacy transfers

Wait, who said it was OK for it to be September already? Well, while we are here, we might as well enjoy the pumpkin spice revolution and another round of legacy transfers for Secret World Legends.

Funcom announced yesterday that it has plans for a second round of transfers to take place at some date later this month. This will allow veteran The Secret World players to bring over any remaining articles of clothing, sprints, pets, and emotes to Secret World Legends.

It should be noted that this second legacy transfer will only be accessible for those who have used a transfer already (or will do so by September 4th). Presumably, this is for those who have extra Funcom bonus points that wouldn’t transfer in the Aurum exchange, so that they can buy some store items and then bring those over.

Uh oh, they’re actually doing this. Hmm. I’ve been so miffed at them for not allowing something like this to happen. But now I have to re-install the original Secret World to spend my points and stuff there :P Still this really is a good thing I didn’t think they’d ever allow. A lot of us missed out on numerous things because of the points that wouldn’t transfer and various other reasons. This actually will make me happy and feel like spending on Funcom stuff again :D

But will they let me get my black suit pants? I am tired of being the Pantsless Avenger of Solomon Island, but I refuse to wear clothes that clash with my character concept.

While this is a good retroactive response to the mess they made with the aurum conversion it is still just throwing water on a fire that never should have been lit in the first place. Funcom have done this time and again they just never seem to learn the lessons these incidents should teach them.

So for me it is not going to make any difference and I won’t be changing my decision to walk away from SWL. I hope the folks who do stick around can continue to have fun despite Funcom and their shenanigans.

Ahhthat sucks BBB, maybe give it another spin in a few months time. At least take advantage of the second transfer.

Funcom isn’t likely to change their business practices in a few months time.

I only thumbed you guys up cause it’s your voices which prolly got us the second transfer, so thanks, i really regretted not giving chit when i started SWL as i thought it would be another TSW fly by night fancy.

I love the game so maybe that’s it but I’m not understanding this perceived ideas they are like EA or Activision, carbon copy Blizz or any of those other big corps, it’s a small studio doing their own thing, doing things different, not always getting it right at first, trying their best to stay afloat, and everyone turns on them so quickly.

Yet when they literally almost go under and the studio nearly tanks, everyone’s like oh Funcom you’re the last of the best studio, please don’t go under we love you. They make a couple little errors and the angry mob forms and threads like MJ’s provide the pitch forks and torches. WoW?

I’m not going over it again, so if you can’t figure it out for yourself I suggest you just don’t worry about it.

I’ll take that advice.

I have no wish for Funcom to fold or disappear as they have always know how to make a good immersive game and I would wish for that to continue into the future.

I am not lighting torches and getting the pitchforks I am just walking away at least for now for reasons that I won’t bore folks with again by repeating them.

I won’t rule out never playing one of their games again. I may even return to SWL at some point. However, for now a little time and distance is needed for the sake of my blood pressure and to get some perspective.

I meant what I said in my comment below I hope you never get to this point and continue to enjoy SWL as you seem to be doing at the moment. It is a good feeling to have and I wish I could find a game that did that for me too.

Anyhow good luck have fun o/

BBB yea, you know i was not targeting you, it was an observation through my looking glass is all, it was a “in general” view and had nothing to do with you personally, you’re one of the select few who make this site such a treat to come and read, and sad to hear your leaving the game – for awhile ;)

I kind of feel the same way, BalsBigBrother. This is the very least they could do to make up for their complete lack of foresight and misrepresentation of the Funcom Points to Aurum transfer. What REALLY irks me is they didn’t even apologize or acknowledge how they screwed up and a bunch of people are fawning over them like they are just being so generous to let us have a second transfer opportunity! That lack of remorse and the fact that it took them almost 2 weeks to respond to all the complaints, as well as the fact that I would have to jump through extra hoops just to be able to launch TSW (since SWL screwed up the launcher), make me not inclined to bother with SWL anymore.

Well, since they probably don’t have the resources to invent a time machine and do the whole account/points transfer over again, this is the next best thing.

I don’t want to be negative but I’m going to because I’m concerned. I’m worried that is is a further indicator that my home in TSW is soon to be no more. For those of us who can’t play SWL because of the changes to the controls, TSW is where we’re still playing off an on.

I worry that by next spring TSW will be no more. This bringing back the legacy transfers is to give Funcom the ability later on to say “hey we came back and offered everyone another chance to leave TSW before we closed it, aren’t we nice guys?” Hope I’m wrong but Funcom doesn’t inspire a lot of trust.

Too bad they never figured out how to expand the game world, things to do part of TSW for the players while monetizing parts of it. They could have gotten a lot more money from me. Hell Lotro has gotten over $600.00 from me in the last three months due to the expansion ($130.00) and my expanding inventory slots, character bags and snagging this or that.Would have put Funcom in a much better spot financially if they had figured it out.

Truthfully I don’t think this will impact TSW. My guess is this is entirely Funcom’s response to the point exchange being limited to last-year purchases, and explained well after the fact. Now they get to say “spend all your points, because we told you the stuff comes over but the money doesn’t”

I doubt they will shut it down, AO is still running.

Reader

That argument doesn’t hold water, xpsync. Brand new players can still download and install both AO and AoC. There is still potential for new players and new revenue to at least cover server costs and keep the games going. TSW is only accessible to existing players who have already bought the game and created an account.

Edit: Whoops, TSW has been wiped from Steam but it looks like Amazon still sells codes. I stand corrected.

OK good i don’t need to correct you.
If peeps can’t install it, then how the heck did i just download and install it this morning with no problem so i could log in to get my stuff ready for the second transfer.

I tried to login to TSW classic over the weekend and the install was auto updated to SWL. I was not able to roll it back and I tried following the instructions I found on Reddit to do so using a downloaded config file. Nope. I uninstalled the game completely and I guess I’m out $25 worth of Funcom points and all the bonus points I had accumulated since I stopped playing.

Frankly Funcom has scorched the earth for me. I’m stunned that I now consider them lower than NCSoft.

I think your expectation that they’ll shutter TSW classic as soon as they can is accurate.

Set your install folder to C:\TSW or better still if you can D:\TSW

Yeah that’s a known problem. I call it lazy coding. You have to leap through some hoops to correct it so you can still play TSW. I thought I had the link bookmarked but I guess I didn’t. MassivelyOp did an article on how to correct it.

If you can play LOTRO then why can’t you play SWL due to controls?

If i had to list the top 10 ten reasons SWL is better than TSW i wouldn’t be able to, i would have to say; do you want the whole list or just the top 100 reasons (as 10 is to small), but no matter what goes on those lists the far superior controls will be at the top of any list.

I just logged into TSW and all i can think is how the F*ck did i make it to BM, i must have mountains of patience, the controls are absolutely horrible.

I repeatedly mentioned why and it actually bothers my wife to a lesser degree as well. I get nauseous due to how they changed how the left/right mouse look works now. Versus how it works in LotRO or TSW or SWTOR or WoW or EQ or..etc.

Yup and let me tell ya, it sucks plus. My wife and I both attempted ESO, myself a few times and every time after a short bit it would kick our asses nausea wise. (sigh)

I keep it installed on my system but I gave up trying because it just wasn’t worth the hour plus of feeling like that. Can’t do VR either, that’s even worse.

You’re the best Funcom, thanks!
Logged in and thoroughly went though everything and spent the rest of my points. Thanks for letting me get it right, had i known how amazing SWL was going to be i would have done this in the first place.
Was a nice reminder too of just how craptastic TSW really was compared to SWL.

Uhhh, xpsync… its TSW with dumbed down combat choices. I don’t get all of the praise. Its literally the same game with shitter combat.

The game has clicked for them in a way that TSW didn’t is all. Honestly I hope they never lose that feeling because it is a good one to have for any mmo.

I was like that with TSW at the start but Funcom slowly wore me down over the years. While I gave them the benefit of the doubt with SWL to begin with I am now at the point that I am no longer willing to give Funcom the time of day anymore, sadly /sigh

I wonder if I have enough points left to buy some clear and timely communication from Screaming Flag Fire Face…err, Funcom? That’s the root of the problem, and if they keep making that mistake then bandaids like these are eventually not going to be enough.

Reader

Was really glad to see this, logged into TSW and spent a bunch of bonus points as well as vet points, and discovered that there were dozens of items I had available to characters but hadn’t claimed from the claim window so they didn’t get transferred.

Good of FC to do this, especially since they didn’t clarify point transfer for people who’d spent real money before mid-2016
