MechWarrior Online integrates special events with its newest patch

Boom.

If you played BattleTech around the table before jumping into MechWarrior Online, you’re probably familiar with the “IIc” designation attached to certain ‘Mechs, marking Inner Sphere designs adapted to serve as Clan ‘Mechs with significantly improved technology. Four new hero ‘Mechs have been added with the game’s latest patch, a quartet of Clan IIc machines for those who want the smooth tech of Clan engineering combined with the brutal lines of Inner Sphere machinery. Or for those who are just really attached to the Hunchback for whatever reason.

The big centerpiece of the patch, though, is a new special event system integrated into the game that will make special battles more immediately visible and relevant for players. It will support per-faction conflict more comprehensively while improving both Quick Play and Faction Play modes. Now you can just see your goals and your progress right from inside the game. And if you use those new hero ‘Mechs to take on some of these special events, well, there’s nothing wrong with that.

By gawd, what did they do to this game?

The “hero” mechs are so damn gaudy, they make me want to barf. I remember when at least there was a pretense to making mechs with camo.

Battletech went down the same cess pit path that Car Wars did, each new expansion added must-have uber gear, that none of the earlier stuff could compete with. Rather than expand on the range of choices or the depth of gameplay, it was a pointless arms race where the original game had better balance and a better play experience. This was all back during the pen and paper era of the ’80s and early ’90s. Turning into a video game has just mauled so many once great franchises.

/grumpy. damn cloud infrastructure. harumph

its almost as if my god the time period changed! That means new mechs and new weapons to play with. Most of which are interesting. It changes the dynamics but a lot of the old weapons are still viable. I am still seeing light mechs with just med lasers still. And if you don’t like the camo patterns than don’t buy them or the colors. You can stay green but I wanna be a rainbow of colors as im dealing death!

I will say that I think skill points cost to much cbills but other than that im really liking the latest stuff they added.

A lot of earlier mechwarrior designs were damned close to transformer and macross and other older anime mech designs that the company has been forced to get creative.

I really like the fact that the developers provide design notes with detailed explanations for every balance change they’re making in the patch. This is not only more informative and interesting, but short-circuits some of the griping and wild-eyed speculation which balance changes inevitably produce among the player base, (I said “some”).

More developers should emulate this technique.

They are making a single player version of MechWarrior now I think besides still developing the MechWarrior online.

But I don’t want single player mechwarrior online. I want mechwarrior 2 remastered. Best game of the franchise. Best soundtrack. Best mech designs that they prob can’t use anymore. But that’s what I want. Tired of dos boxing it
