Secret World Legends rearranges the Orochi Tower while The Park spin-off goes on sale

Secret World Legends’ weekly “The Buzzing” roundup has moved from Reddit to the official site, and in the most recent edition, the team covers the recent patch, the return on the legacy transfer service, and the upcoming final chapter of the Tokyo storyline.

The Orochi Tower is loosely scheduled to arrive in SWL in early October, although veteran players might find a few new surprises when it does. “The tower’s gameplay flow is going to be different from the classic tower,” the devs said. “You’ll need to do more floors in a more linear fashion, and you can expect to see a couple small gameplay changes and references to things that weren’t in TSW.” Rumor has it that there is even a new floor in the works.

And if you’ve been bitten by the Secret World bug and want more, more, more, then you could do worse if you picked up a copy of The Park. This single-player horror spin-off that focuses on the Atlantic Island Park is now on sale at Steam for $5.19. This comes with a chipmunk costume that can be ported over to your SWL account, so there’s a nice tie-in with the MMO. The sale is over tomorrow, however, so move quickly.

“You’ll need to do more floors in a more linear fashion…

They could say that about a lot in this reboot : P

I’m currently addicted to SWL. Having owned TSW for years but never had the enthusiasm to get beyond Kingsmouth, I’ve found the revamped combat (which admittedly isn’t as revamped as Funcom would like people to think) has gotten me back into the game. Played almost all of yesterday and finally made it to the start of Tokyo. Hurrah!

What IS the Orochi Tower, though? Is it a dungeon? Or part of the single player main story?

Single player content, though designed for potential many playthroughs (including an achievement). There’s two dungeons that take place under the tower.

Did someone say “two dungeons”?

In game, I literally live in them.

Yeah they’re coming probably October (unless taking longer), in Normal and Elite. Then the remaining 3 Elites (that have the Normal modes already; Transylvania).

Just as an fyi (and this may be different for different territories) but GoG has The Park on sale at a 70% discount in comparison to the Steam one which offers me a 60% discount. The price difference isn’t a lot, £3.99 Steam and £2.99 on GoG but it all helps I guess (sale on GoG ends in about 7 hours as at time of posting.)

I remember how many said that SWL is no more than cheap way for Funcom to shake down some money. I understand why a lot of MMORPG players like this – there are ton of examples they would be right. But looks like SWL is not one of them.

And these news warm my Templars soldier heart. :D

We’ll see how they’re doing next year. They pumped a lot of time and money into this relaunch to bring back lapsed players and attract new ones. Whether or not they can hold on to them remains to be seen. If they can’t come through with actually new content by spring, their 1 year relaunch celebration is going to be pretty small. There’s already a lot of people who have stopped playing due to the grind that is the item leveling system. The problems with having a 10-way split dungeon system along with drops that are more frustrating than exciting hasn’t helped either.

They’re turning some stuff around, recently, but it’s not a sure bet they succeeded yet.

*nods* Not saying there is no problems, but to be honest these month has been busy. I can’t talk about anything I had not played yet (current progress: 45% Egypt).

Truth is gearmill always was and will be something I am usually has zero interest in and many players I know would say the same. But we can see for sure that SWL is not just some rip-off – that was my original thought.

I believe for the dev’s, this is their passion, the money now; is green lighting allot of stuff they’ve been yearning to do for far too long.

Bunker Guy said back then that marketing told him to say “there are 512 combinations” and then they didn’t manage to make the last 3 beta floors, leaving only 320 permutations. Maybe they found those floors now ?

Orochi Tower was such a cool bit of content. I am sad though that they never did put in any secret, hidden levels as they said they wanted to. For those unaware the way the tower worked was that you would do 3 levels before reaching the board room at the top. You could start on the “alpha” floor of any of the 8 subsidiaries but you had to get a keycard to progress further and you might get the beta or gamma card for a different subsidiary than you started on. But there was a rare “hacking tool” that would let you pick change the keycard. There were a few missing 2nd stage floors and they hinted there might be off the grid levels they could stealth patch later that would require a hacking tool, but that never happened.
