Dungeons & Dragons Online teases Mists of Ravenloft expansion, buffs Clerics and Favored Souls

It’s always a crapshoot whether or not smaller patches are going to pay out with exciting features or fail to make a blip on the community. This week’s Dungeons and Dragons Online patch might fall into the former camp, especially if you happen to play a Cleric or a Favored Soul class.

Update 36 Patch 2 adds, for the first time, domain choices for Clerics. Now player Clerics can specialize in one of 19 (!) domains and gain feats from them as they level. These domains range from healing to trickery to luck and offer another level of character build customization for the class.

Favored Soul classes also get their day in the sun, benefiting from increased starter stats and two additional feat choices at levels two and seven. The patch also improved the Mimic Hunt event, with new rewards and new ways to earn those goodies.

Looking ahead to the future? Then you might want to check out the game’s latest livestream, during which Standing Stone teased both the logo and the music for the upcoming Mists of Raveloft expansion. Expect a chunk of it playable on the PTS next week as well, including the Aasimar race and Vistani Knife Fighter enhancement tree.

Nice to see this. I love the D&D clerics, but the whole point is that you get your power from a particular god. Hopefully the deity specific skills make clerics feel different from each other.

Back in 2e they had spheres instead of domains. Each sphere granted specific spells and each deity gave out 3-5 lesser sphere access and 4+ greater sphere access. Some clerics didn’t even have access to healing spells. Combined with specialty priest kits you could have an entire party of clerics that all had their own quirks and abilities. Made clerics much more interesting to me when they were radically different based on their gods.

Heck, I had a ‘Joydancer’ cleric of Liira back in the day, fought unarmed like a monk (dance fighting/kicking people in the head with hobnailed boots).

Why is this not yet part of the Daybreak All Access pass? I sub to that and play EQ2 and DCUO. Heck, even play PS2 a few times a month when I have that itch – just because it’s there.

Would love to have DDO and LotRO join this. Huge marketing opportunity here to add tons of players to these games and have people spend money on the in-game shop.

My initial plan for my next life was to roll an artificer – aiming for COmpletionist for the first time – but it looks like I’m going to need to take Cleric :) Still have 3 levels to go before I can reincarnate though.

Seems good, I keep wanting to play again, but LOTRO is my side MMO for when i have too much time, maybe ill swap to this when the expansion comes out if it has some lower level content or at a level I have a character.

I’ve been meaning to try and get back into DDO, I used to play it so much.

I am looking forward to spending way too much time overanalyzing my choices for a domain.

Like 2 years ago I bought all the DLC on steam because it was 75% off because some friends wanted to play. I never ended up playing at all, this is the perfect time to jump in and give it a go. I LOVE CLERICS!
