Red Dead Redemption 2’s trailer is finally here, still launching on console spring 2018

It didn’t quite make summer, but close enough: Rockstar has finally rolled out the new trailer for Red Dead Redemption 2. We’ve been keeping an eye on the western as like its sister GTAO it’s got some MMO-ish elements: “The game’s vast and atmospheric world will also provide the foundation for a brand new online multiplayer experience.”

The trailer description doesn’t mention deployment for PC, so we still don’t know whether that’s happening, but at the very least we can assume it’s not happening right off.

“The all-new trailer for Red Dead Redemption 2, the story of outlaw Arthur Morgan and the Van der Linde gang as they rob, fight and steal their way across the vast and rugged heart of America in order to survive. Coming Spring 2018 to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One systems.”

Likewise, the game was originally set for fall of this year, then delayed to spring of 2018, which apparently holds. The trailer’s down below.

R* takes their time to get PC right, given their pattern with GTA V.

That or they figured out people will still buy it on the console, buy it again when they release it on upgraded console a year later and buy it a third time when they finally release it on the pc two years later.

“The game’s vast and atmospheric world will also provide the foundation for a brand new online multiplayer experience.”

Still wouldn’t get me playing until Rockstar come up with customer service better than ‘no appeal against bans, regardless of our faulty detection methods’. Not that I’ve been banned or anything, I just prefer to buy from companies that treat their customers with respect.

game companies generally don’t allow ban appeals these days as a rule.

what games are you playing that they allow otherwise?

Both Blizzard and Zenimax have systems for appealing bans – I’m not saying they get appealed successfully, but at least if Rockstar had the process they’d perhaps start to figure out their detection system seems to have a few flaws.

they have a category for that in their customer service ticket system.

.

Gah, tried to edit the picture and now I can’t reattach it. Picture, if you will, Rockstar’s appeal category going straight to the rubbish bin.

So what we know from the trailer:

1. There will be a main character
2. There will be a story
3. There will be supporting characters

Good job keeping us in suspense, Rockstar!

Interesting that we’ve entered an age where console-only games are counted as MMOs and covered by an MMO web site.

The hardware and the cloud has finally arrived that can accomplish it.

That’s been the big story of 2017 to me. MMOs migrating to consoles.

Its still up in the air on if this game will make it to PC like the GTA games did. The first one wasnt, but Rockstar knows the demand is there.

Many are speculating that the game will have a fairly large multiplayer mode too, allowing a good number of cowboys to roam around the world, like and expanded version of GTA5s multiplayer.

i think it’s rather like it will come to pc.

modern consoles are basically just locked down PCs for one.

and for two gta5 has been top 5 seller on steam constantly since it released on pc however many years ago it’s been now. lol

A lot of the small scale multiplayer games covered by this site are not massively multiplayer.

However if rockstar brings back a new and improved free roam, this game will be more mmorpg than many recent mmorpgs. The originals free roam was an amazing experience.

I’d rather play as Hondo Lane than the bad guy in westerns these days.

You should read Hondo. I’m almost done with it now. Fantastic book even though it was immensely popular and well known during it’s time. Reminds me of Cormac McCarthy and James Fenimore Cooper rolled up into one. The influence on McCarthy, probably my favorite modern day writer, is obvious.

Defo puts me in the mood for this game.

i looked up the wikipedia article and skimmed through the synopsis of the movie. seems pretty decent. may need to track it down and add it to the queue

Hyped for this one! Red Dead will always hold a special place in my heart because I converted my father into a gamer with it. He used to give me guff for spending time playing games and now his retired ass plays more than I do!

PC release for GTA V was a year later, right? I would expect at least that long of a wait for this one too. They got me for 3 copies of GTA V (PS3, PC then PS4) so I’m gonna try to stick to just PS4 on this one.

GTAV PC release was pushed back due to them having to redo the game onto Next-Gen. If anything I’d say look at GTAIV since IV wasn’t released at the end of a console lifecycle. Dunno why RDR didn’t come out for PC either.

the rumour of why rdr didn’t come to pc is that the studio that did it (which iirc has since been closed? or something) had to heck the code pretty heavily to get it to run on both xbox and ps3. and the code was so mangled that it would not be cost effective to try and hack it into a state to run on windows.

which anyone who has played it on either of those consoles can see that’s a fairly reasonable rumour to be believed.

That rumor does make sense. In fact it also go with GTAV since ps3/360 GTAV was pretty bad in optimization and how much room Rock star had to update. So no surprise here.

Ehh… definitely not a gameplay trailer. Boo.

Definely cutscene stuff, but given what top end games are capable of in terms of graphical fidelity these days, there’s an excellent chance that’s all in engine footage rendered in real time.

Reader
Dug From The Earth

In engine cut scenes are a 100% improvement over totally separate CGI scenes that way games in the past were done. At least we can see the graphic quality of the engine, even if the action and events going on in those scenes may not be what you can physically control or do in game.

I’d still rather have a “Let’s Play” video than a scripted trailer.

idk if gta5 had any of that before launch. but they do do live gameplay broadcasts of new game modes on their fb page regularly.

Reader
Dug From The Earth

That almost never happens though as the first set of trailers released. Especially not with AAA game titles

They always release a story oriented trailer, followed by a gameplay trailer… THEN maybe followed by a type of lets play. Its marketing from all angles basically.

For a game that is going to have LOTS of these cutscenes, its kind of nice to see what we will be experiencing from that perspective, although its barely a taste of the cake they are trying to sell us.

They only do engine footage.

Reader
Sray

In engine doesn’t necessarily mean not pre-rendered though, versus real time. If it’s real time rendering in the trailer, then they’re doing impressive work; if it is pre-rendered though, then it’s slightly less impressive.

rockstar generally doesn’t do straight gameplay trailers at all.
