“Lots of these plans were noodling around in my head since 2007 or 2008,” he said, “although active development of Book 9 was going on for about a year in advance of Mordor — it sounds like a lot for fifteen minutes of gameplay, I know it, but that’s the curse of the game designer. Everything takes longer than you think it does.”
Speaking of Mordor, Composer Chance Thomas announced that the expansion’s official soundtrack will be released on November 1st. We’ve heard it’s the same playlist that Gollum used when he was on his final road trip, so you know it’s something special.

this is the only MMO that has ever measured up to EverQuest..
It’s more a testament to the stupidity of Turbine really. The story was written in the late 1930’s and 40’s. The ending is clear, the ring is destroyed, and the 4th age begins. How they could be mulling it over for years is really comedic but makes complete sense given the company and the game. The ring is destroyed, Frodo’s journey ends. You do the scouring of the shire then you go to Harad, which Aragorn defeats. You make him the focal point of the epic story which you already have mostly. There is also the reconstruction of Rohan, mop up of the Easterlings and battles over Rhun.
The ring gets destroyed; it’s always had to be the ending. This is Lord of the Rings, the story has already been written.
Open it up to PvMP with flying mounts and let the story write itself…
Please tell me the soundtrack will be on Amazon as well as iTunes for those of us who don’t use iTunes! I have every reason to believe it since I grabbed the LotRO 10th Anniversary soundtrack from Amazon, but his announcement didn’t say where it would be available.
I guess that I assumed that Gollum’s playlist was just Depeche Mode’s “Precious” on infinite loop.
Could be. But I bet he’d have “Walking In My Shoes” tucked away for those late night Smeagol moments. Lol.
I’m surprised they didn’t retcon the one ring to be in a lockbox.
