Final Fantasy XIV launches patch 4.1 (and no, you can’t get a house)

That works.
Yes, Final Fantasy XIV has dropped patch 4.1; if you were trying to get a house, you both already knew that and are already out of luck. To the surprise of absolutely no one who has seen this happen before, housing sold out within moments of the servers coming up, something that has been joked about on the game’s subreddit for months now (there’s a reason they call it Shirogane Savage). This is, of course, not a new problem. Further analysis on that problem can wait until… oh, let’s say tomorrow; this system isn’t becoming less messy before that.

On the other hand, there’s still plenty of other content in the patch to enjoy, with an expanded main scenario, new Beast Tribe quests, the Royal City of Rabanastre, and so forth. You can check out the full patch notes on the official site (although some of the items are still not listed in the notes) and check out the trailer for the patch down below.

So sad to see the game do so many other things right and stay up to date but be years, over a decade behind in some cases when it comes to housing.

You can call it ‘cosmetic’ or ‘fluff’ but for FC’s housing provides fundamental PvE features you can’t get any where else. If you don’t already know what they are, you are underqualified for this conversation.

And lets be honest did any no pc players get into housing?

I find it hard to believe housing takes up that much server space that they cannot make more instances of it. Honestly they use server excuses a bit too much for a game that’s owned by a company like Square and I’m able to accept those excuses about as much as I would from Blizzard with WoW. Then again Square has shown they are stingy as can be when it comes to how many resources they give to FF14 and love taking the money the game makes and not putting it back into the game.

You’d think that they would have learned by now that this is going to be a major problem. Not to mention it doesn’t solve anything nor make housing more available to anyone interested.

Betting that even the apartments are all bought up now that they added storage.

FFXIV, STILL trying to mimic the worst sandpark land rushes of the past few years, because that worked out so well… XD

In a game where all their major content is instanced, I find it mind boggling that their housing is not.

The fact that over 80% of the forum posts on the official forums is only about the housing debacle SOMEHOW has to trigger S-E to look at this. There’s just…I don’t know how this is still an outstanding issue ever since the introduction of housing.

I’m not sure what they’re doing but they need to look at this sooner rather than later. This is become an absolute running joke against the company with other players at this point.

“x.x patch gets released with new housing? Well we know 90% of the base won’t be able to get it!”

When your own playerbase jokes about this, there’s a serious problem. I totally get it: it’s fluff. it’s got some neat features. But it’s a feature that is really core to some players. While they’re going around and giving the select few people (hardcore crowd) the fight of Ultimate, more of the core players that want housing are left in the dust.

A serious reprogramming needs to be done up in S-E to make them realize “Hey guys? This is getting ridiculous. Don’t care how it has to be done: fix the housing issue.”

And this is coming from a guy who owns a personal house and an FC house and knows just how ridiculous it was for both houses to get.

Glamour is fluff too, at the end of the day. If they limited that to the first 700 people to login, people would riot.

At the end of the day, it’s a subscription game. There’s no reason for this nonsense artificial scarcity.

They really need to do something about the housing shortage. It was a complete madhouse. Even the apartments sold out within the first hour on Balmung. And from all reports, it was this bad on all the servers, even the little tiny ones.

My FC was extremely lucky and managed to snag one. But it shouldn’t be this kind of race when this isn’t a game based on owning land …

I’ve never liked the land rush thing. Ever. It just always seemed like an excuse not to make big enough housing areas. “We’re tired of designing more places for housing, let’s just make it a sort of cruddy PvP minigame where people sell them to each other on some other forum!”

Reader
Tridus

“And then we’ll make selling them on a forum against the TOS! Everyone wins!” (Not that they actually enforce that, given there’s a subreddit just for house selling.)

The housing situation is a complete joke. I mean, it’s not 1998 anymore. Scaling up more wards should be easy. At this point it’s hard to conclude anything except that it’s Japanese stubbornness that is the problem.

I managed to win the queue lottery to get one today, but everything was gone within minutes and the queue was absurdly huge behind me. If you were trying to login at 6:01 EDT, you were SOL. There’s something fundamentally wrong with that in a subscription PvE focused game.

It’s kind of funny (not really!) that games designed around limited housing get all the hate (continually, pretty much every time they are mentioned) and yet this one, just rolls along, with only minor grumbling. There is no reason for the current shortage of housing, and it IS a factor in keeping at least one sub away from this game (me)

It’s not minor! The angry threads just on Reddit collectively had over 1500 comments as of a few hours ago – presumably more now. Expect a longform piece from us on the problem tomorrowday.

Unfortunately, the only reliable way to fix that is with unlimited instanced housing.

Which I find just fine — in fact, I don’t even bother with housing in MMOs unless it’s instanced — but that many players, and apparently the FFXIV devs, don’t want.

They could keep adding more wards until there’s a house that stays available more than 20 minutes. If there’s no houses available, spin up a ward. Problem solved.

What they’re actually doing right now is encouraging RMT, which they claim to oppose. There’s a subreddit specifically for house selling and business is booming because that’s the only way to get a house.

Tridus- the sad thing is they’ve made so many changes to the game just to stop RMT yet it’s only made the game worse…

Breezy don’t forget my complaints you wrote about a year or two ago!
Although some of the no brainers like losing items that have been put down are lost…
