Conan Exiles makes thralls awesome, considers ‘free-flow movement and combat system’

Thralls are finally becoming a lot more interesting in Conan Exiles. Currently in testing for PC is a new patch that makes those NPCs a bit more like custom companions than like the bots they once were, as you can now interact with them and fuss with their inventories, thus outfitting them so they suck less.

“One side effect of introducing the thrall inventories was that you could no longer pickup these thralls once they have been deployed [due to inventory item restrictions]. This makes it more cumbersome to move thralls over long distances. We are therefore adding support for archer, fighter and dancer thralls to follow you around instead. This should make it easier to rearrange your defenses. The follow mechanics also opens up the doorway for rescuing thralls in the future.”

Repair kits are also in testing, along with roofing pieces. Funcom says it’s working on stamping out crash bugs, building out the the Volcano dungeon, adding craftables, implemementing a new critter, and iterating on what could be huge changes to combat.

“Something that’s being considered is a more free-flow movement and combat system, where your character won’t end up facing the camera during combat,” says the studio. “It’s still on the experimental stage, and might not make it into the game at all, but it’s a possibility.”

Have this game’s basic workings changed a lot since release?

I cannot be arsed to grind out fifty fucking rocks for every building I create, and I don’t have it in me to just turn down costs or crank up yields in cheatmode; I feel like the initial, this-is-how-it’s-meant-to-play game should not just feel like fucking God-awful grindy nonsense.

Nope, but that is the nature of this genre of game I’m afraid, if it isn’t your bag then survival games like this in general are likely not for you as they are all much of a muchness in that respect.

More and more interesting… And I’m very curious about this free-flow combat system. I have always found “clanky” the combat as it is now. Hoping to see more improvements about it in the next updates…

May have to give this game another look. I like what I am reading with these latest updates.

On the whole a good update..but kinda bummed we have to maintain thralls weapons and armors too as that is potentially a MASSIVE undertaking. I know I personally have like over a hundred thralls spread across four locations…the hought of having to maintain all thier gear would be absolutely impossible for me alone their just would not be enough hours in the day.

Hopefully they include a thrall gear decay slider in server options so we can turn that off.
