Watch Star Citizen’s CitizenCon 2017 here, plus check out alpha progress in Around the Verse

In this week’s episode of Star Citizen’s Around the Verse, the team says it’s gotten its must-fix bug list down from 20 to 16 blocks, improving load times, repairing disconnection issues, and tweaking inventory use. The feature segment of the episode is the second part of last week’s legacy armor, how the team is updating (really, re-doing them) for the latest tech, and even how the team is working the older-looking armor into the lore.

Meanwhile, CitizenCon 2017 officially opened its doors just an hour ago in Frankfurt, Germany, where attendees are being treated to science panels, booze, dev demos, booze, playable demos of alpha 3.0, more booze, and of course, presentations by Chris Roberts himself. Watch the opening ceremonies below!

Ahahahah..
Ok this is getting ridiculous.
I’d totally get it that they’d stop announcing dates altogether.
It makes sense, they make a huge game and they’ve been missing their estimates in a spectacular manner so far. Not by days, not my months. By years.
But changing their model to a date-driven one.. Damn.
That’s either PR bullshit or means a very deep restructuring is taking place within the studio.

Joe Blobers

No restructuring involved but Delta patcher working as expected after extensive test allowing release of contents each time a build with more contents is stable enough for release. This is also a sign they are doing good progress overall with their pipelines production and feel confortable to do so.
Let see how it translate every three months during 2018 and what type of new gameplay involving professions like mining and salvaging works together with NPC’s interaction.

2018 will definitively be a key year to prepare future swap to something allowing a change from Alpha to Beta.

🚀 #CitizenCon 2947 is now officially underway!

I am looking at the picture and I can’t see a single woman in it .

Maybe it is just that most female gamers have enough common and fiscal sense not to invest in a pyramid scheme .

Roo Wood an sense of logic: No women = pyramid scheme…. or how to take any signs in favor of a single oriented word that is a bit hard to shoot by those day: Scam :)

Breaking news: We noticed that many backers get dressed in black which is a clear sign of imminent CIG collapse… :)

I realize there are a few big money makers out there with tons of disposable income, I got lucky with investment and retiring. My house is nearly paid off, I retired at 40, no vehicle debt, no CC debt but I could buy another decent house with one of my CC’s. But I simply refuse to invest money into something I do not own physically, it makes no sense. A slight boast but more to let readers see where my thought process is with this company and it’s advertising to draw in gamer’s.

That said, I wonder how many gamer’s, not in the position a few of us are….just how badly have these gamer’s gone into debt with this unreleased game and buying pixel ships they will never own.

It staggers the imagination that so many gamer’s have gone into debt for this game. It is pure nonsense to think many have not.

I would be truly curious as to any that have the balls to come forward and state they have spent far and away over their income or are on their 15th CC to buy ships and packages.

Because I would bet there are more than a few.

40. That is fantastic! Enjoy your life! I’m sure you are!

I made some mistakes concerning debt and video games in my youth. You are 100% correct in assuming some folks are making serious life errors on this one. Star Citizen is all about getting caught up in the spending vortex. In this case – for nothing.

Quote Possum440:”I wonder how many gamer’s, not in the position a few of us are….just how badly have these gamer’s gone into debt…. It is pure nonsense to think many have not. ”

You have categories of individual who can managed both their patience and income. Those are the best investors, consumers and backers on the planet.

On the opposite some other that don’t care so much about what they spend, either spend less elsewhere or get in trouble for a time. They buy car, motocycle, house, vacation… anything they can’t afford without a credit.

I bet my salary that a very few percentage (zero dot something) are throwing money they don’t have in MMO’s to the point to be in trouble.

Your sentence “It is pure nonsense to think many have not” is 100% speculation and in no case can depict one specific company as being evil. If you can’t manage impulse, prepare yourself to pay even more for it.

With SC you can see the total amount of $ you pledge either through package, standalone ship or subscription. Many MMO’s don’t have a counter, guess why? Players are spending a few $ or 10’s$ here an there. After few years this account for hundred or thousands and no way to know how much you paid in total unless you keep track or your expenses. Again CIG is not the evil that few try to depict.

So easy to make and “deliver” cities entirely, just like they did, with exterior and interiors, as demonstrated by this “totally legit” tool/demo.
But so hard to make and deliver a couple of tiny outposts:

This team can’t help itself LoL

Reader
Tufao

This will never be a MMO. This (not the game as a whole, just this) won’t be ready before 2025. And they will need, by their standards, 2 billion dollars to come to the point that the today’s demo is showing (even featureless like that). Just reality of game development.

The same stunt have been repeated by this team again and again and again. I loved how in purpose they prsented something, not actually stating that it will make the things coming faster, but, making backers to spread the word in such way, when there is nothing really incredible going on, just a tech to generate a few maps and interiors, but that still needs a huge level of manual work to make it funcional in-game.

Nothing really unusual, but used to create such bait-and-switch message to attract ignorant people. It was glorious, by the way, when Roberts told the public that no game have this scale (forgetting what was demo’ed in Beyond Good and Evil 2). But, once again, another bait-and-switch message to mislead the public to the mistake. He is right. No game have this delivered in such scale. And that includes Star Citizen of course.

It’ s a demo to share an idea. It’s not development progress. It’s bullshit. Any dev can create this thing in a month if his focus is to win 2 million dollars of JPEG sales based on just that. It does not need to be realistic. It does not need to run in realistic environment. Old old old stunt that is so low, that not even evil publishers are using that too much these days, because, press is not acting as “good guys” when looking to their games anymore, the same “good guys” eyes they look when talk about this project, in general, not really for any reason, except that they hate the possibility of “publisher business model” be the only way of deliver good, more complete, games.

Meanwhile, AtV shows the reality. The team struggling to fix what should be a lot less than 0.5% of additions to the current game and 90% far of what was told that would be 3.0 more than an year ago.

And then, they sell this 700-800 dollars JPEG with tons and tons of features attached to it. Run behind money like they did with AMD cross-promotion in the past. And the feature creep intensifies. And that’s in the top of 99% of vaporware features at this point. 6th year. 160+ million dollars.

Those Frankfurt people are geniuses.

Whatever happens to Star Citizen, in this we can see new horizons in virtual worlds. We’re looking at real-estate that would make the Westward Expansion look like a subdivision.

game is shaping up to become EPIC. i wasnt expecting the city tech to be as good as that but at least now we know its relatively simple to generate all that and the most important thing is the tools where they can generate a city really fast and generate stuff on the inside fast to. no need to go in and build it out your self, flow graph and generate. That is how they will be able to build out these locations faster and faster

The tools are what impressed me the most.

Reader
Tufao

I think that you was impressed in the wrong way, like many backers was. What they shown, for example, hardly would “impress” a publisher, that is used to see all this from developers making games and know a little more than usual gamers about game development.
I mean, it’s not like they can produce those cities in an instant and that’s it, like primal is trying to tell or make it appear, so as many comments of die-hard fans trying to promote this again, just as they did with everythign else in the past.
Even the devs said that the amount of work (manual) that must be done in the top of that is huge. Which is basically what prevents this project to ever be realized, realistically speaking, AS PROMISED (many systems, huge MMO instance, etc.).
Things that they ever will manage to “procedurally generate” and make it work, to be meaningful.
Not to mention the flagrant lies of Roberts in the demo (“planet-city”, when there was just an area with the city and the rest was empty).

The tool, which was demo’ed not live but in a pre-recorded way, so, considering the standards of deception of RSI, still questionable even if they produced that demo, even partially, through that tool), that’s just an editor of exterior/interiors.

It’s not really so much groundbreaking. Yeah! It’s pretty much a need for this project. A requirement. But nothing really so advanced that they “discovered” or “created”. More like a basic tool.

Besides. Heh! If was in the way that Primal stated, 3.0 would have a lot more than those tiny outposts right?

Some people never learn.

And I am sure that Roberts knows that and made a lot things in purpose exactly to lead people to mistakes and hype itself and others like Primal did. Later, he puts the guilty in the backers who didn’t understand the message and hyped or claimed things that “they didn’t say”.
Another old stunt they have been using since day one.

I can believe that they manage to release 1 system, barebones features, or totally alien features to what people were expecting for this project (like spending more time in the shower with the avatar than doing space sim stuff, because space sim stuff is too barebones and other games are much better on that) in 10 years more of development with the same level/style that we watched in the today’s demo.

But single-player or very tiny populated multiplayer instances, preventing most of those expensive JPEGS to ever work.

This never will work like the intended world-wide MMO. Realistically, as 10 years is too much time to wait and other games with more focus are out there doing a job focused on results to then, to earn money based on that, I am pretty sure that capitalism reality won’t allow this project to come to life as promised, or even in this status that I “can still believe”.

Really. So far, they are doing nothing to solve the real problems that this game have to be realized and after that to be fun and after that to be COMPETITIVE.

Just adding bullshit to 90% of the vaporware dreams and creating all forms of illusions to desperate backers too sunk in sunk cost falacy and doing all the change of focus they can to things that “they could deliver” in the current scenario (uh! Facial animations, plants, tiny animals around, avatar customization!).

But at least, they managed to make a better presentation this time. I mean. If you go out there to lie to your investors/backers, at least lie correctly. They made major mistakes that reveal their lies and their deception to more careful eyes. But indeed, they managed to deliver good illusions for the eventual audience or backers that believes in whatever thing they do, or feel themselves responsible to their marketing and were desperate to have some “new” weapon to fight the “good cause”.

Very impressive tech demo. It’s sad that they went back from doing it live like last time to on rails “look what you might have in the next 2 years”, and correct me if I am wrong but, eight hour steam with zero new gameplay?

it is live but it’s offline singleplayer and on rails with alot of bullshotting and canned demoing involved clearly.

but i guess you wouldn;t be here if you didn’t find something to bitch at someone about pointing out the obvious in a rather positive if anything way given this project’s history.

If I were solo, the 8 minutes could get annoying, though not any more than WoW’s flight paths back in the day. On the other hand, if I were in a multi-crew ship, those 8 minutes would give us time to stretch our legs and do some other things in the meantime. This is, of course, assuming you aren’t distracted by some blip on the way and drop out of warp to investigate.

Quote Shear:”that. 8 minute loading screen”
Do you really believe those 8 minutes are not part of the quantum mechanism for very far distance journey or are you just trolling?

Quantum to a planet 1/10th of distance and the flight will be 1/10th of time. There is no loading screen beside the one to pick the game selection screen between various modules (Arena Commander, Space Marine, PU)

Quote Sherar :”Very impressive tech demo”

A tech demo which is indeed a game in development not just a funny trailer nobody will ever be able to get in hands. Coming with 3.0 and 3.1/3.2. We are talking about quarters not years.

Professions are coming with next patch, it was known since a few quarters already… At least they show something which is both new and impressive, 3.0 gameplay have been already showcased.
