Indie vampire fantasy MMO Shadow’s Kiss has already reached its Kickstarter goal

Still bummed over the loss of World of Darkness and Revival? Shadow’s Kiss may be for you. Last year, we covered the vampire fantasy MMO when it set up shop on Patreon. This week, it’s landed on Kickstarter proper, with all the accoutrements vampire fans will expect.

Shadow’s Kiss is a game of darkness, adventure, passion, and horror, set in the fictional city of San Cipriano. The game casts you as a vampire (or possibly other supernatural creature…) who goes on quests, faces off against other supernatural factions, and gains items of power to rule the night. While Shadow’s Kiss incorporates many of the classical elements of a Massively Multiplayer Game (MMO), it also seeks to innovate, especially in ways that make for an interesting gaming experience within a society of vampires and supernatural creatures. Parlay and diplomacy are critical parts of the experience, including building your influence in vampire society through intimidation, bribery, and seduction. You cooperate or compete with other players to rule the various aspects of the city, including law enforcement, organized crime, and the media. Your rise to power, and your story, are built around your Rogue’s Gallery, also known as your Cast of Characters, which are the allies, enemies, thralls, spies and blood dolls you’ve acquired through questing and exploration.”

The Kickstarter has already reached its $25,000 goal with a whole month left to go; stretch goals thus far include new factions. Indie studio Clockwork Throne Inc. says that sum is the “bare minimum to complete the playable experience” of the game, which amounts to 30 levels of vampire storyline. The $15 buy-in gets you the whole game and testing phases, though pledges go up to $10,000 for immortalization in the gameworld.

While I am interested in a “World of Darkness” style MMO. I am not interested in one that has the look and feel of a decade old MMO.

Well, this seems great but for obvious reasons: It seems pretty based on VtM. The starting traits may as well be the clans, but i’m liking the fact you aren’t locked into it.

Blue Blood ( Ventrue ), Thaumaturgist ( Tremere ), Artisan ( Toreador ), Lunatic ( Malkavian? ), Warrior ( Brujah ), Spy ( Nosferatu ), Wildling ( Gangrel ).

Forget what i said. This is blatant copy. I hope it’s just a homage, since VtM formula worked for so long, but while having a Vampire game makes me happy, i wouldn’t like a pure copy of what WW gave us.

A specific that could change everything is the weakness of each trait: What a lot of players didn’t realize is that what defined VtM clans weren’t their Disciplines, but their weaknesses. Hot-headed Brujahs, insane Malks, Gangrel with the mark of frenzy and the Beast on their bodies, the woes of the Nosferatu, the refusal of the Ventrue to even consider feeding what he doesn’t enjoy, etc etc.

Those would be complicated to transfer to games, not completely impossible, but complicated. And if it is the same, then it would be a complete copy.

Well, i’ll wait and see.

Great one was unborn, melted down. Pretenders are not fit to seize the throne.

Can someone explain where this game is in development because I was checking out their store page and saw this

Milestone Available: Alpha I (June 2017)

So is the game in a semi playable state now, or did they miss that milestone and just didn’t bother to update there store page?

You know as cool as this game sounds it’s ringing all sorts of alarm bells for me. Check out their store page and compare that to the kickstater page. Makes the kickstarter look like a fire sale. The $99 Cavern lair is now part of the $30 game package, that seems off to me.

Oops I forgot to point out they have a Patron page as well.

Not really my cup of tea, but there is definitely a huge market out there for a good vampire MMO. Honestly, I’m a bit surprised there haven’t been more attempts at making one.

$25k should do it. I have full confidence in this one.

I’ve never been much of a vampire fan (exception –> if you get a chance to buy or rent the restored version of the 1931 Dracula film starring Bela Lugosi, with a score by famous composer Philip Glass, it’s worth a look, I think) but the desire for a game like this is obviously very strong out there.

I hope the genre fans get the kind of game they’re hoping to see!

I thought that to right up till I played Vampire masquerade bloodlines.

Oh, I played Bloodlines a couple of years ago. The positive buzz on that game was too strong to ignore.

I managed to apply the fan-made patch that’s out there, which restores a lot of the lost bits, and patches many of the release bugs, and I thoroughly enjoyed the game. For me, at least, it completely lived up to its hype — and the older graphics didn’t take away from my enjoyment of the story at all.

But, as a rule, I’m still not much of a fan when it comes to vampire games. Most of them just don’t hold my interest.

My ears are definitely perked in this game’s direction, particularly with its ideas on influence and its turn-based combat. Hopefully it does a good job of giving that “wolf in sheep’s clothing” sensation that a vampire must feel.

Yeah, i am intrigued as well. I am not so put off with the concept of turn-based combat that i won’t keep my eye on this – been wanting a WoD type game for a long time.

Pretty much. Stalking dark alleys, kidnapping prey into the shadows, or seducing feeble kine in overcrowded shitfilled dance clubs. Breaking jaws of the idiots who think they’re the hot shit around town, until they realize there are true monsters around.

And that they won’t live to tell anyone.

Fuck, i miss VtM.
