Black Desert introduces Thanksgiving boss event and halves its B2P fee

Kakao announced today both Thanksgiving celebrations and sales for Black Desert. In fact, it’s a good time to be jumping into BDO as a total noob, as the game is currently 50% off. Existing players might better take advantage of the game’s daily deals, which drop specific items down to just 10 pearls and mark others down to 30-40% off.

Don’t feel like opening your wallet? Then the Thanksgiving boss event is for you.

“The festivities continue with Pearl Abyss adding the highly requested fifth pet slot which allows players to loot more effectively. This feature will be updated after today’s maintenance. Additionally, adventurers can look forward to the return of King Targargo, a special Thanksgiving boss. By defeating this reward-stuffed turkey and by participating in the Turkey on the Table event, players can earn amazing items. Furthermore, NPC Patrigio has started his Discreet Discount sales, so players are invited to check out his wares.”

Tempting but I suck at PVP and I’ve heard end game PVE is just grinding mobs with out any story, think I’ll stick with GW2.

Unless some one wants. To correct me.

BDO is a bit atypical in it’s design compared to what we would call end game in other games.

For one, there’s numerous forms of basically unlimited progression. Consider grinding mobs kinda like the default option that many people opt for because it’s simple and synergizes well with many game related activities. However any number of play styles are viable and in fact some of the more well known people in the BDO community are crafting oriented individuals. Those multiple forms of progression and that feeling of never actually truly being done are big reasons why BDO has become a hit with a lot of people.

The game world, and the characters, actually do have a pretty rich story but it’s something you have to kinda go out of your way to discover. Mediocre translations don’t help this case much but I’ve heard some people compare it to Dark Souls/Bloodborne in that if you read the knowledge categories (which you have to unlock) it explains much of the game and what’s going on and why it’s going on but it doesn’t just spoon feed it to you.

PvP is one of those things where it’s not as bad as people think it is, but some people refuse to play any game where they might get killed by another player. It’s very easy to avoid and heavily discouraged via game mechanics that punish player killers so the situation in which you would be “hell camped” is actually extremely rare. I don’t PvP or node war and I enjoy the game primarily for the account/character progression.

You grind and grind and when you think the end is in sight you are hit with an even harder grind.

its almost teh hardest grinder out there as there is no other modern mmo comming close to the amount of grinding that needs to be done to level up.

I know as i played it from start uo to 6 months down the road when the game competitive guilds left :)

Not sure you’ve logged in lately but they’ve significantly reduced the grind for leveling purposes.

The grind for money…well that’s the eternal grind :(

I’m surprised they haven’t just made BDO f2p yet, considering how cheap the entry fee is they can’t be profiting much off of it but it could still be driving people away from trying it out (even if it is just $4).

I dunno I think the $5/$10 strategy works really well for them. I’ve known at least 3 people who have said “Oh it’s just $5 on Steam” and they buy it. I’m sure some recognize the incentives to spend money in the cash shop shortly after and don’t continue playing, but seems like a good amount of players are constantly streaming into BDO from Steam. It wasn’t until recently, with all the server disconnects and issues that we stopped seeing as many channels hit crowded status.
