EVE Online’s Arms Race update offers more ships to free players today

Boom?
Before you get too excited, let’s note that today’s update for EVE Online is not simply handing out ships like space travel-shaped candy. Free players are still going to need to train their various new ship options. It’s just that there are more ships available for free players to fly once the requisite training is done. Heck, there’s even a whole video overview on it just below, if you’re curious.

This update also brings in a new event celebrating these new piloting options, new visual improvements, new daily skill injectors for free players, resource war adjustments, and lots of other fun things all around. You can jump in right now, if you so choose (or at least you can once you’ve done the requisite patching and so forth). Unfortunately, this update does not include the free ship fairy visiting everyone, but perhaps that’s something to ask for when the winter holiday comes around.

It’s sad to see the end of Eve Online on the distant horizon. But who would have ever guessed eve would last as long as it has. Still around 3 years left, so we should all cherish it while we still can.

but I cant do the training unless I buy stuff to raise my skill cap.

It really gives the impression they can’t get new blood due to the games reputation at this point.

You realize the game has a great reputation right? And a great community too. EVE was the only game where I got free ISK from strangers multiple times and where there was always someone willing to answer questions in the chat. Its low player retention numbers have NOTHING to do with its community being “toxic”; if that was the case games like LoL or Overwatch would be long dead.

Sounds like CCP is really struggling to keep Eve relevant. I’m playing Star Citizen right now, I can never go back to Eve. With all the content Eve has and with so little SC has, I still choose SC over Eve.

*Yawn* Sounds more like you’re trying really hard to make a game in alpha relevant. Let us know when that ships.

Even if what you say is right, (which it isn’t) lil ole me trying to make a game relevant compared to CCP giant really ain’t shit now. CCP has been slowly making Eve F2P cus no one give a shit about it really lmao. At max they have what 30k concurrent players (ya i’m being very generous there). Thats nothing for an MMO in 2017. And lets just not factor in the multiboxing that takes place with that game. SC will kill many many games including Eve.

I don’t see how a fan of a game 3-4 years from launching can really talk about killing other games. By that time, EVE may have died from old age, although something tells me a small core will still be around.

I think 3-4 years is conservative. It’ll probably be just that to get a semi working alpha version that combines all their game modes together on the scale they want. Then another few years to test out all the bugs and expand upon the content to make it more fleshed out. Then maybe we’ll see release a year or so after that.

They should put George RR Martin in charge of development, the game might launch quicker.

Because time is limited.

Yeah but no matter what they do, Eve’s rep killed it for most people.
