The Abyss Challenge League also begins today. “Coinciding with the launch of Path of Exile: War for the Atlas, we’re introducing the Abyss Challenge League,” says Grinding Gear Games. “Fight ancient foes that spill forth from the cracks beneath your feet as you journey across Wraeclast, and claim valuable new Abyss Jewels to customise your characters and items in new ways.” The Xbox One launch is scheduled for later this month, so you won’t have too long to wait, though you can check out our detailed preview of the expansion while you do so!
Massively OP will be streaming the expansion today at 3 p.m. EST, assuming the servers come up right at the scheduled time, so join in the fun on OPTV!

Abyss league is awesome fun.
Out of interest I thought I would click play even though we are still over 1 hour 35 minutes from launch at time of posting. Seems to be a lot of folks interested in this game as there are 22506 folks already queuing to get in and the server isn’t even up yet.
So for anyone that may have plans to stream um say MJ for instance, you might want to keep an eye on that and jump in sooner rather than later ;-)
Damn, I still have an hour and 13 minutes until I go home. Which is, coincidentally, when the servers come up. Why can’t GGG turn the servers on at 3pm instead of 2pm!? Don’t they know I am more important than everyone else!?
Some rotters who don’t know how to queue are pushing in at the front I am at 32,789 now.
(I got disconnected for all of 5 seconds but got put at the back of the line apparently /sigh)
I’ve been disconnected a couple of times since I started playing and then had to queue. Fortunately it was only a few hundred in front of me and went relatively quickly.
There has been a guy streaming all morning (it’s down for a patch right at the moment) who after just 7 hours of the league is somewhere around 68.
I started playing a couple hours after the start and my Scion archer is 15 after 5 hours!
The real question is, which build to play?
All of them :-)
The one you think will be most fun!
Is there a way to adjust the camera angle? I know it’s a strange complaint but I have a hard time playing this due to that.
I like how the new leagues sync up with the expansions. It gives people who haven’t played the game in awhile a reason to come back at level 1 and not get overwhelmed with relearning the game + picking up the new changes.
Ah Path of Exile an island of positive gaming vibes shining like a beacon in an increasingly depressing gaming world :-)
Not to mention, a cool developer that is customer friendly.
My 3 week x-mas vacation started today, coincidence?
Nope..
Finally going to give this one a try after being bored with Diablo 3 seasons.
Now I just gotta find a build….last time I played Dominus was the end boss :x
Lol Dominus was end boss when I started PoE which is years ago
FWIW I’d advise making up your own build as you go, once you are familiar with the game’s mechanics. You might not be able to kill every endgame boss, but it’s loads more fun than copying a guide build and skill-spamming away with that. (I haven’t played post Fall of Oriath, but after the atlas was released I could still get to T13 maps with my random self made builds, so you need not be stuck halfway into the game)
I play my own builds (screw the “meta,”) but I wouldn’t advise building it “as you go.” Not planning the build out is a good way to end up being gimped, especially on defenses. There are plenty of planners out there, this is the one I use:

I wouldn’t mind going off on my own if I was more familiar with the game or the respec mechanic was more forgiving.
And things have changed a lot!
I play casually, solo self-found, and need builds that are easy to play. Here are a few builds that I enjoy:
This witch is a great league starter and pretty much destroys everything with a few buttons:

My favorite, Lazy Paladin, a good build to get into PoE with:

Marauder:

Shadow trapper, also a great league starter:

Duelist:

(This probably the one I’ll start with for this league.)

Some of these have not yet been updated for 3.1, the last two for example. But Say-Ten’s builds are well done and solid, so I included them.
Some build-posters like Say-Ten, PewPewPew and Sovyn are very knowledgeable about the mechanics of the game, so you can learn a lot just from reading their builds or watching their videos should you wish to dive in on your own.
Sorry about that, Ashfyn – this comment got caught up in the spam filter, but it should be live now. :D
Definitely agree with the Shadow Trapper build. It is probably one of the most dominant builds I’ve played since the old Heavy Blow Marauder – which was well before Cyclone even came out.
There would be times when I’d kill so much & so fast with my “Grenadier” that the frames wouldn’t catch up to the fact that the enemies were dead, and loot would just drop from thin air.
As a solo self found I tend to use some variation of a sunder build for any new league as its is pretty simple to use and doesn’t really need too many specific gear items to get going. After that I see what I have in terms of gear and gems then I see what I can build around those options.
Alright thanks for the links!
I saw someone do a Shadow Essence Drain was thinking that direction but this gives me some options.
