Elite Dangerous’ Thargoid aliens are finally fighting back

I'm sure it's fine.

It turns out that when you mess with the Thargoids long enough, eventually even they get fed up.

Elite Dangerous players have been poking the ethereal aliens with the space equivalent of prodding sticks for months ever since they first started appearing in the game as part of its ongoing plotline. Players were divided over whether to communicate or fight; fighting was initially effective only until the Thargoids appeared to develop resistance to player tactics, and communication proved difficult.

But reports coming from the game today suggest that the Thargoids have had enough of being hassled and are fighting back in earnest, apparently attacking multiple player space stations and provoking emergency evacuation notices for players with ships docked there (you won’t lose your ships, mind you, as they’ll be moved some place more secure unless you intentionally fly back to the besieged station, but it’s some fun flavor).

Looks like it’s shaping up to be a fun holiday in Elite!

Wow, that was intense.

You need heatsinks to stop you ship from blowing up but it’s just the kind of jeopardy I was waiting for.

“multiple player space station”??? Bree, don’t believe the hype. There are no player space stations in Elite Dangerous. The game doesn’t let players own structures of any kind. EVE it ain’t.

And the reason player ships got moved out of attacked stations? So Frontier could manually replace the station’s regular model with a damaged model, for which that had to take down the game for all players. Yes, the game’s tech really is that crude.

As for that video, it’s just an advert. Its events didn’t actually happen in the game. Again, having actually aliens attack and damage space stations in the game is waaay beyond Frontier’s ability.

Well they have been fighting back for a while if you look at the number of dead super capital ships that have been cropping up covered in Thargoid weapons fire, and the amount of dead NPC ships.

I wonder if there is an actual objective, like for example if players log in and kill enough Thargoids at the station can we claim it back, or if we leave it will they spread into surrounding systems and attack more stations.

Who am I kidding that would be actual work and content hahaha.

FINALLY.

Ever since the 2.4 update the only thing that happened was reskinned CGs and some tiny instances with Thargoid ships floating around. Many in the community were joking how the whole Thargoid return launched and then immediately went on hiatus. After weeks and weeks of boring, recycled content we finally, FINALLY get to have something interesting happen.

Looking forward to dusting off my ships and heading out. They’ve been mothballed for over a month now.

Agreed, Finally , Frontier needs to understand that exciting things become LESS exciting if they Take Months ( with nothing changing for Months) to move on to the next phase of an EVENT. This is a great Xmas Present for ED Players! Bravo
