WRUP: Totally accurate stuff about The Last Jedi maybe probably edition

In the latest installment of space shooty-bits, we find out that the eponymous Last Jedi is actually a dude named Ralph because Luke Skywalker quit. (We see that scene in a flashback. He walks into Ralph’s office and tells him that he can take the job and then perform anatomically unlikely acts upon himself.) Ralph tries to hire Rey as another Jedi, but Rey fails the written portion because she cannot identify the parallels between two different Robert Frost poems in 500 words and she keeps misspelling Kashyyk.

Not the wookiee homeworld; that’s Kashyyyk. This is a different planet that’s spelled Kashyyk. Totally different thing.

Elsewhere, Kylo Ren asks Finn to teach him how to dance because otherwise Mean Mister Snoke is going to tear down the rec center if Kylo Ren doesn’t win the big county dance-off with a $2,000 prize. Finn responds by piloting the Evangelion into the rec center, proclaiming no one gets to have it. Then Captain Kirk and Boba Fett get married and fly off on a pegasus. It’s the feel-good something of some time period or another. Let us know what you’re up to down in the comments of this week’s What Are You Playing, and don’t actually drop spoilers there because that’s being a jerk.

Andrew Ross (@dengarsw): It’s console party weekend for me, so while Pokemon Go will probably happen at some point, I’m looking forward to some Super Smash Bros for Wii U, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, maybe some Marvel vs Capcom 3 and other local multiplayer games. I also gotta make time for Final Fantasy XIV because even if I haven’t bought it, the game lets me pursue that Santa Bear mount that I didn’t realize I need.

Brianna Royce (@nbrianna, blog): Realistically, I won’t get to play jack – I’m deep in the throes of trying to finish dozens of articles and prep for the holiday. This is exactly why I never get to see any of the winter events! Just too busy. I got a bunch of stuff patched up on my laptop though, so we’ll see. I’ve kinda been itching to go back to The Elder Scrolls Online.

Eliot Lefebvre (@Eliot_Lefebvre, blog): I’m actually going to see The Last Jedi on Saturday, but otherwise I’ll be playing FFXIV, World of Warcraft, and at long last NieR: Automata. That last one has nothing to do with online functionality, but it’s a sequel to a franchise I quite enjoy.

Justin Olivetti (@Sypster, blog): I’m kind of picking and choosing which holiday content to pursue, but Lord of the Rings Online’s new winter elk mount has me eager to do Winter-home all over again. I’m having a lot of fun with my Hunter in World of Warcraft, trying to get to level 10 in Dungeons & Dragons Online to do the new Ravenloft expansion, and am slowly climbing the Orochi Tower in Secret World Legends.

Haven’t seen Last Jedi yet, but Force Awakens would have been a complete disaster without Kylo Ren. The best part of the whole movie is when he removes his helmet and you gasp – you were sure he’d be burned and disfigured just like Vader.

I thought it was completely ridiculous that people who haven’t trained with a lightsaber could hold their own with him. Being “force sensitive” isn’t enough. Luke had to undergo extensive training to battle a Sith Lord. But Rey and Finn can battle one and not be decapitated or dismembered in the first few strikes? AAAAGHH!

I will now go calm my nerves and contemplate the ridiculousness of expecting anything resembling logic or accuracy in a Star Wars movie or its plotlines. Dilly Dilly.

I havent found any MMOs worth playing recently. Only thing I have installed right now is Dark New Dawn, but itll be wiped soon so there isnt much activity. Ive just been trying out some of the new patch content. DND is basically 90% of the original which is mostly a good thing. But we’ll see if these Devs treat it better and improve the game. All the old flaws are there too, like crappy gfx. Here is my RamHorse

CO’s human models sit in the uncanny valley for me, so I use a lot of nonhumans. I present Captain Raptor and the Gadget-Deer.

Decided to reinstall/resub to Champions Online today. Last time I logged in was 1,931 days ago. That’s a very long time. I have to learn the game all over again. But my characters are still there. Meet Warden.

After the last podcast I was tempted to give it a go again too. How you finding it?

So far it’s pretty much how I remember it. I subbed because all of my characters are freeform, so it doesn’t make sense not to. I’m re-learning how the game works, so I don’t have a final opinion yet. It’s the only superhero MMO in town at this point and I had an itch to scratch. STO’s been my only MMO for a long time and I need a break.

I’ve been playing regularly since the last anniversary event. Much like the Star Wars movies, once you accept the thing for what it is, you can actually enjoy it and not merely be disappointed and critical. However, you will be frustrated… that’s just inescapable with Champions Online.

Replayed through Destiny 1 and man Rise of Iron -the last expansion rushed out as filler due to D2’s delay- makes Destiny 2 look so bad in retrospect. I remember when it came out people were so surprised by its tone and going “Halo 2, is that you?” and i just wonder what happened to the people that made it as they dont appear to have had any major influence in the style of D2 which is so safe and bland in comparison.

I really liked Destiny 1, but yeah, Rise Of Iron was my least-favorite expansion there.

For me, it was the fact that I was happily playing a game which wasn’t about medieval-fantasy things, and then they tried to bring in “Destiny Future Vikings”, if you know what I mean.

I know that Destiny is actually science-fantasy, like Star Wars, but I like the science-y flavor.

I mean, I can get angry, muscle-y people with big sharp melee weapons in something like 70% of the games out there — did they really have to bring them into my Destiny game as well? :-)

Cheers,

Been spending a lot of time with the PC version of Romancing SaGa 2. I’m a big fan of the SaGa series in general so I was happy to finally give this one a try.

I’m drowning in my new playthrough of Breath of the Wild, too. It’s devouring most of my gaming time despite the fact that I’ve already finished it and that I have other huge RPGs on my plate.

I’m really trying to stay in the moment and enjoy myself instead of biding my time until Monster Hunter World.

Today is Splatoon 2’s ugly sweater vs. ugly socks Splatfest, and I’m team sweater, going for the highest participation rank. So far I’ve had a decent amount of wins with the new N-Zap ’89 weapon (it looks like the orange NES lightgun).

Later on, I can nearly guarantee there will be some Final Fantasy XIV happening this weekend. It’s good to be back!

Maybe NieR: Automata as well. I bought it months ago but just got around to starting it, and I think I love everything about the game so far. So many good games came out in 2017! If the year is remembered for nothing else good, it at least has that fact.

Splatoon 2! Another great game.

Oh… Nier: Automata. Yup. Just hang in there and work from ending A through to E. You will shake your head with approval. Make sure you are online, there is a need to be online. If you get there you will see what I mean.

And, yes. It has a banner year for single player games. There is no question about it. And the multiplayers games have complimented it nicely. Too bad it is now mired in the muck, and what people will remember is SWBF2’s failure and AAA greed.

I already got NieR: Automata’s ending W if you know which one that is. :P Instead of discouraging me, it made me want to become much better at the game. It also helps that Yoko Taro is a weird person in the best possible way, and I want to play through the story to see the fruits of his unique (and intoxicated) mind in action. So far, I do well enough on bosses, but groups of various small enemies give me problems.

My good friend went to see Jedi. He didn’t have good things to say about it. Said to wait for the dvd. but it was entertaining he said.

A lot of the things I’ve been playing are either finishing up, or dwindling away, so I’m kind of thrashing about for something new to try without breaking my budget this close to Christmas.

Weather’s crap here, so that only heightens my desire to play a good game and ignore said weather.

I’ve basically finished Agents of Mayhem — there’s still repeatable open-world stuff to play with, but the actual story component is done.

I loved the game. Exactly the kind of game I needed when I needed it.

I suspect we won’t see any more of the franchise, though, considering how it wasn’t a huge hit; probably the next thing we’ll see from Volition is more Saints Row. I’ll miss AoM — it sure was fun while it lasted.

I’m still liking World of Warcraft quite a lot, but since I’m not really a fantasy-gamer first, I’m very much itching to play something more science-fictional.

Destiny 2 is fun, for sure, but I tend to burn through its content pretty quickly (because I enjoy it). The Curse of Osiris was more like The Mild Headache of Osiris, in terms of how long it lasted. Not sorry I bought the DLC, but it’s pretty much done now.

I’ve been eyeing the early-access game Stationeers over on Steam, but it may actually be too complex for me to enjoy. I don’t have an engineering degree, and I don’t plan to get one just to play a game.

As usual, I’ll let you know here if I find anything interesting, folks.

Meantime, take care of yourselves, and may you get to see The Last Jedi before some random arsehole out there genuinely spoilers it for you, if that’s your movie of choice this week.

Cheers
