CIG delayed its holiday Star Citizen/Squadron 42 stream over technical issues

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

If you were waiting up for the Star Citizen/Squadron 42 holiday special Around the Verse stream slated for today, looks like you’re going to be playing video games instead of watching them, as CIG has just announced that it’s postponing the stream until tomorrow over technical difficulties.

“Due to technical issues, we are pushing our Holiday ATV Special by 24 hours. As you can imagine, there are multiple pieces that we’ve been pulling together for this episode, which is now running around two hours in length. We’re also planning on finally revealing some long-awaited Squadron 42 gameplay. In the course of going over final reviews this morning, we’ve encountered a few technical issues. Though the team is still hard at work to quickly resolve these, we didn’t want to delay the Holiday Special to a later time or inconvenience our backers around the world. Pushing the episode a day later felt like the best option to accommodate our global audience. We hope you can join us tomorrow for this very special episode.”

The episode is expected to lay out a timeline for the delayed Squadron 42 spinoff. You can get a peek into what’s in store with yesterday’s video reveal.

Who forgot the HDMI cable?

lol, just saw it isn’t even live. I guess they forgot to scrub all of the Crytek restricted legals on the video.

you can understand the first major reveal of squadron gameplay needs to be fairly spot on but even now im playing AC origins and theres clipping of your characters stuff.

if this was something for an E3 or gamescom spectacle then yeah needs to be perfect but its not so needs more tech time fair enough but they’ve an entire year albeit with tech upgrades and stuff so not 1:1 but even still just lock it down and improve for sq42 part 2, the tech will advance but improve it for part 2 ffs

You ever get the feeling Star Citizen internally doesnt have a coherent design document and pipeline?

Reader

No, I get the feeling that CIG gives weekly updates on the status of the game and goings on at the company, and when they announce a delay on a special live edition of one of those updates, people collectively lose their shit.

Stream delay = Game must be a scam, fake advertising, inept leadership.

I didnt say it was a scam or fake advertising, I’m just saying that as someone with literally no investment in the game whatsoever (like, space sims are about as much my thing as playing sports), all you ever see from the outside is “those crazy CIG boys once again delayed something”

Wasn’t going after you specifically, your comment was just the lucky one for my response to the thread.

Think the mods gave the other conversation a hand slap :(

Do you really think company without any design documents, pipeline and structure could create something like this:

6 minutes largely consisting of a cockpit and a slowly coming into view planet?

I;m not really a space sim player so I’m not really sure if thats supposed to be an impressive feat.

I mean. No Man’s Sky did that too, for all its flaws, and smaller budget, and design issues with the left hand and the right hand not talking to each other. Which , having been a planetfall player, i remember similar issues with game builds on planetfall because departments would overwrite each others builds without telling each other

Im trying to imagine your picture of how games are made. Devs smoking weed and drinking beer all days long and out of nowhere they have ship appear on their computers, then planet, and both interact with each other. Devs smoke more and woah, now they have working NPCs! And dialogues.
Man, I wish games could be made like you imagine it, maybe I made my own masterpiece too

Even I have to say, there’s no defending this one.

This is a Demo they should have had locked down and ready to present at least one week prior to the announced date so they could be sure that (after a one year delay on this particular Demo) that it’s ready to go as advertised.

At this point I lay it’s even money as to whether we’ll see yet another delay announced for this tomorrow and possible yet another ‘apology video’ if they can’t even do whatever SQ42 Demo they were planning this year out to the Backers.

Open Development should show the project as it stands – warts and all – especially when you specifically tout the date/time you plan to give said demo weeks in advance.

100% this. It’s not as if people aren’t used to seeing unfinished products from this studio. So the delay leaves not only a bad taste in peoples’ mouths, but also suspicion: either you’re a perfectionist and are willing to sacrifice the goodwill of your playerbase who took time to watch this in order to get a perfect demo, or your product (or team) is nowhere near ready.

I want to say I’m surprised but I’m not.

To think people believe these cowboys are capable of making the BDSSE when they can’t even get a stream working and on time. What a fucking embarrassment they are.
