It’s long been known that the next
Destiny 2 DLC will be out next year, with most players figuring on early in the year, but beyond that there has mostly been rumors and speculation. Now… there’s more than that. A page for the next DLC showed up on the Japanese and American PSN stores and was swiftly taken down, but as you no doubt surmised,
fans took all of the necessary screenshots and have already spread the information. Short version? It’s going to be called
Gods of Mars, and it’s sending you to… some planet.
Fine, it’s Mars, yes. Specifically, it’s the Frigid Vale of Mars, where players will find new quests, new landscapes, and perhaps most importantly new enemies to shoot. (And hopefully fewer bits of content retroactively locked behind the expansion.) You can check out the screenshot of the store page below, although you should be warned that any of these informational tidbits could be subject to change before its actual release date in March.

At this point even owning the season pass my reaction is ‘yeah, we’ll see what actually comes out’ because the game looks like its not doing as hot as they intended. Its getting pushed on the PS4 dashboard in your list of games which they did with Destiny 1 after house of wolves when the user numbers were in catastrophic freefall before The Taken King and now just about every major shopping outlet is doing stuff like “Destiny 2 for £20!” far below any other AAA release right now or “D2 free with call of duty WWII” because the numbers have gotten so low they are no longer being reported.
Knowing activisions spending habits for advertising alone they must be looking at a sequel that turned all the npcs into meme queens and over 68% of content locked behind a cash shop in a buy to play game with a season pass that is NOT an mmo and wondering why players are leaving when they are making money.
Personally i think they have to pull a major rework out their ass. Whales might be subsidising the drop off now but thats money in the shortterm while more and more players are poisoned to the brand and they wont be buying D3 at all. I wouldn’t have thought it a year ago but i can see the Destiny IP in its current state going the way of Battleborn. Even the cliche mainstream consumer is more wary to dev double dipping after battlefront and Destiny 2 comes real close to that shitshow. Its just not star wars so took longer to get the rep its deservedly built for itself this year.
And another 20$ just a couple of months after Curse of Osiris. Aight, on *top* of the lootboxes.
Oh good. I get to save Rasputin, AGAIN. This is what, the third time? Fourth?
Mistake? Yeah, right. Pull this leg and it will play jingle bells.
Dam, so a $60 box price, two $20 required DLC (I say required because if you’re interested in experiencing all of the endgame they are required), and then optional lockboxes, in less than a year. What a sham.
This expansion was finished a year or more ago. All they have to do is press the ‘release’ button. People who give money to these scammers are fools.
I paid £26 for the expansion pass which gets me both DLCs and, seeing as I’ve been playing the game almost every day since it launched, it’s a reasonable price for me.
Which is fair if you’re okay with making blind purchases like that. Buying a season pass and giving a company money for something without knowing what that something may be is a gamble. I don’t like doing that, especially when I don’t know if I’ll be playing a game 6 months later.
Regardless, it’s still ridiculous to sell $40 worth of DLC for a game that has been out less than a year (if its march its half a year). To me, that’s absurd and that content that was pre-developed should be included in the initial $60 purchase.
As opposed to all that “free” content that comes out during any other game’s expansion cycle, that was also 90% conceived and developed during that same construction peroid, and is doled in tiny drips over 12 plus months at the cost of 15 bucks a month?
My point is we’re all eating shit sandwiches; it’s simply a matter of what version is least offensive to you.
I’m not eating any shit sandwiches ;)
I get your point though, and it’s a valid comparison for those who are currently paying subscriptions for other games that also have box prices.
You paid for content they made months ago and think you got a deal ~~~sucker~~~
I couldn’t play it “months ago” and each DLC is currently on sale for twice what I paid, so yeah, I’d say I got a good deal. As I said, I’m playing the game almost daily and getting my money’s worth, so it’s a good purchase for me. Sorry, you have such an issue with me enjoying the game.
No sub. Guess all games should be free now?
I thought fake leaks went out of style a few years ago.
Not for Acti-Bunghole. They are pulling out all the stops.
