Atlantica Online celebrates its 10th anniversary with free level 130 characters

It’s the most wonderful time of the year… for Atlantica Online, that is. The long-running fantasy MMO just marked its 10th anniversary with a large update and a few special events.

The December 21st patch contains a level cap increase to 180, the Abyssal Armory gear, a new dungeon, and the introduction of the latest mercenary, Ninetails. Players can catch up with an instant level 130 character and go through tutorial quests designed to bring them up to speed.

There’s also a Christmas event going on inside the Holy Town that involves monsters and rabbits for some reason. Until January 18th, players level 60 and above can use special tickets to go inside the Holy Town and help out a matchstick girl, chown down on a buff-inducing feast, exchange rabbits with Ms. Santahontas for gifts, and play a slot machine.

I have just neverr understood this “here have a max level character” nonsense and certainly never seen it as a positive thing. To me the idea of skipping the entire game as if there is some magical nirvana of AAA content waiting for me at endgame in ANY game is just laughable, Endgame is where enjoyment goes to die in a miasma of dailies, forced grouping and pvp… bleeeurgh no thank you. Progression content and story is where enjoyment for me lives and all a skip this now gift would do would be to steal ALL my enjoyment.. so thanks, but no thanks, keep it :)

Not interested in this game in the slightest. That being said, it always warms my heart to see an MMO that has done well enough that it lasts a decade, even if I’m not playing it.

I hadn’t ever heard of this game before (or I’d just forgotten about it) … watched a little video, it seems cool … turn based and you recruit mercenaries and form a team and stuff … being bought by nexon is a bit of a red flag but the game might be fun to potter around in for a week.

Actuallylooks like now it’s run by Valofe, whoeverthey are, and that seems to be a bad thing from the comments I can find on it

Unfortunately it has been nothing but downhill since Valofe took over. I hate being so negative when it comes to this game, but Valofe is essentially unfit to run a game. Our player base is loyal and easy to please, but they somehow make mistake after mistake.
Before Valofe we had enjoyable events, decent customer support, content updates, and mostly cheat free.
After we lost staple events that community looked forward to and replaced with login in events/screenshot events. Tickets are pretty much unanswered after they incorrectly banned people for unknowingly buying duped items off they market. Bots, cheaters, dupers, phishing scams went rampart, they had to disable the official game forums because 75% of the posts were phishing scams. The economy will probably never recover from all that. The worst part to me is that they knowingly drag their feet about content. Over a year ago new content was released on Korean servers and we get nothing.
So in short, if they handle your game the way they handled ours, its essentially a dead game in less than a year with no content, no events, full of cheaters.

I likedf this game when it released but it lacked a lot opf polish (especially later on) and it becave pay 2 win very quickly with lockboxes.
Still it had many very cool and unique elements and I always wished there would be a sequel.

I hate “catch up” events … So much content gets bypassed.

They really should be introducing hard mode dungeons or something instead.

Used to play this like 7 or 8 years ago. Was pretty entertaining for a summer, and it certainly had its unique elements.

But for some reason I just couldn’t keep playing. Lack of polish or perhaps the game play became tedious?

End game turns into a XP brick wall, story disappears, full kit of top tier stat boosting cash shop costume / mount / pet / mercs that are cash shop kitted become mandatory, and then mobs start tossing around instant death attacks.
