Secret World Legends’ NPCs awaken on Twitter

As the Secret World Legends community continues to hold its breath in anticipation of what Funcom is planning for 2018, movement arrives in an unexpected quarter.

Over on Twitter, there have always been several in-character accounts for several of the game’s NPCs that used to chatter back and forth between each other. They’ve been silent for quite some time, but this has all changed in the past 24 hours. Now… they’re talking once more. Does this mean we could be seeing some updates soon?

“Time passes. First in seconds. Then in aeons. If time exists. Two sweetlings awaken,” The Buzzing said.

“This thing working? Feel weird. Like a glitch in the Matrix. @Innsmouth66 you get that?” asked Danny.

“Yeah. LOLz. :P But nervous lolz. It’s like after a nap. Like lots of time passed. Or no time. Like I woke from a world that’s the same, but different. A world where Berenstain Bears is spelled ‘Berenstein.’ A world where Doc Copper didn’t have a nose ring in The Thing,” replied Carter.

I do hope that Kristen, Sonnac, Said, and the rest manage to stay out of trouble on Twitter, unlike a lot of celebs and people these days. ;-)

I just got to Egypt because I’m playing so casually so I’ll have a while before I need new content lol. Got back into the game during the Halloween event but was a bit on and off for a bit.

Must admit i envy you slightly, i came into SWL not thinking it was going to go anywhere for me, figured i’d go solo story at the most. Met the right peeps and the Cabal i’m in, we are probably the top players in the entire game, surpassing a 1000 ip a long, long time ago.

Sure i would’t have it any other way now, the people i play with are all original TSW vets and they love SWL as much as i do, but a weee little part of me kinda misses the on my own digging through the stories at my own pace. They keep me so busy, with raids, lairs, regional and MB’s, and of course Dungeons runs that i simply have very little time for story content. One meaty quest, yes one quest can take days for me to complete. lol

But as i mentioned, i wouldn’t have it any other way, i totally lucked out meeting these amazing players.

Seriously, it can be a mediocre game (SWL is awesome tho!) and falling into the right folks can make it the funnest ever. Is how Lineage II was for me. The game was a bit lacking in story and was nothing but a grindfest, but man oh man the fun I had with the gang I played with.

I regret powering through Egypt and getting through the story in Transylvania for the Krampusnacht event because I was enjoying doing every zone at my own pace and totally completing it! But to be fair, part of my job is showing off new content when it comes, so I do need to be there and ready for it. (I don’t count Tokyp as new since I have already written about it and showed it off lots in TSW).

To elaborate slightly on the mediocre (didn’t really have time to post last night), i agree, i’m not saying SWL is the greatest mmo ever, no mmo is the greatest mmo really and every mmo is pretty much mediocre if one does not fully embrace the full game.

There is so much more to all of them, swl as an example, lets start with the lore, it’s so deep there is so much to read, achievements for example Old Toilet Achievement there is so much of that in the game, every zone completion rewards, the Museum, all the group content, clothing you can make yourself so unique, i’m probably even forgetting other stuff, but my point is there is so much more to all of them that people don’t bother with, a huge percentage come in locust feed the quests, then leave and or qq till new content comes out, rinse repeat.

There are peeps in the Cabal that do all of the above, literally, and here i thought i was busy, lol. Sure i pick at certain parts like the museum, lore, clothing, achievements, when i’m not in group but that’s a rarity.

I love the game world, it’s that simple, it’s the most unique coolest mmo out there, and meeting the right peeps was inevitable due to my love for the game, in turn meeting the right peeps has allowed me to fully embrace the game.

This comes after the news of Cyberpunk’s twitter suddenly coming alive after five years.

I love it!

I just want to shrug off the chains of Fantasy and roll around Dark Near Future themes!

I would settle for Steampunk or well done post apocalypse, like the Deadlands settings (LOL, I know that won’t ever happen).

Reader

They should make Gettysburg, PA one of the locations in game. There’s so much fun stuff they could do with an area like that.

Reader
Jeffery Witman

Kahokia would be a great US location to explore if they want to go back to North America. On the surface it’s East St. Louis, IL, but underneath it’s an ancient native pyramid that’s been built over by the Europeans. Maybe the Illuminati investigated it and came across something, and maybe they just dismissed it because they found nothing interesting there (but now it’s waking up).

Personally, I want to see more new locations. Some South America. Some Antarctica. Some Central Asia. Maybe a Land of the Lost kind of hidden land.

Well, at least this should mean we get some info soon. Working on finishing Tokyo finally (MJ’s last article spurred me to dive back into the game I suppose) and then it will likely just be waiting for the next content drop. They seem to be pretty quiet since the initial roadmap they released, so definitely looking forward to a “start of the year” info dump/producer letter type thing.

Taking quiet as working hard. Going to be an awesome year!

No, that’s dumb. I get you’re a fan, but your fandom borders on the irrational and it does the game no benefits.

Communication MATTERS. I get that they may not want to do deep dives on stuff that’s a ways out or that they’re still planning and that’s fine, but they need to communicate. They need to give the community an idea of what they’re working on, what the status is, what their top-level plans for the coming year are. That stuff both drives excitement on what’s to come and instills a sense of confidence in the community that the team is hard at work on specific projects that they can look forward to.

And Funcom continues to be pretty awful at it despite hopes that SWL would be a new chapter for the company/game.

xpsync
Reader

Right and every little thing they say that does not come true, well you know the haters are going to hate on that for years to come.

If anything i think they have gotten wiser with experience, when they have more solid info, we’ll hear about it, don’t you worry, I’ll say it again…

“It’s gonna be epic!”

Reader

That’s why it’s important to be realistic and painfully clear with communications, and to update quickly if things change so folks know early on.

Release a roadmap. If something slips, let the community know it’s slipping early so that the date doesn’t come around and folks aren’t left wondering where that feature/content is or hearing about its delay for the first time.

Communities can be incredibly understanding/forgiving when they are kept in the loop and have consistent, clear communication. Especially if the developers are largely meeting their delivery targets. The reason that SWL fans seem to have gotten salty is because Funcom HASN’T been communicating frequently and clearly. They’ve mostly been hitting their targets (which they’d better be, since they’ve been updating rather than creating new content, and bringing back old systems like the barber shop), but that other half of the equation is missing.

You new to the mmo crowd? Just joking.

Dunno i haven’t been in a bubble for pretty much a decade now. I was in one with EQ2 as well, we play the game, end of story, none of these people (same as in EQ2) are out here whining, qq’ing, and never mention a word of what i read out here.

It’s all about improving our game, all shop talk you know? The comradery is very high, and yea wow, none of this negativism and believe me, they are far from “SALTY” like where do you even get that from reddit? Here? so from the haters, don’t forget “Haters Gonna Hate”, meaning just ignore em, as the saying goes don’t feed the trolls.

We are all playing the game we love whats to be so bitter about?

Reader
Kickstarter Donor
Greaterdivinity

You’re taking criticism meant to improve the game as “salt” and those making it as “haters” who are “bitter”.

Are there haters that just shit on the game? Yeah. But especially during the early days of SWL, almost all the critical feedback I remember reading very much came from veterans who saw issues to the game reaching its full potential (in their view) and wanted to see it improved to best position it as success.

And yes, the salt is from the reddit, which double as the official forums for the game since Funcom can’t be bothered to create their own forums like every other self respecting developer (that’s me being salty).

We’re not saying you can’t play the game you love and enjoy every moment of it. As far as I’m concerned, that’s rad as shit and ultimately the goal of all games. If you’re happy with everything, more power to you and keep enjoying the hell out of it! But that doesn’t mean that the game doesn’t have problems, or that there are those of us who believe that the game has problems that could be addressed to improve the game, and folks like you coming in and trying to dismiss/shut down that critical feedback, that again is delivered in a hope to improve the game and make it more successful, is frustrating as all hell and often turns off potential new players.

I’ll thumb you up for whatever you wrote i have lairs to run now, but i did think about this and you know the only thing they have ever mentioned, is that they wish Slaughter House was on the menu, not one word ever about Season 2 lol.

Meh, all i read is the same stuff i read about in every other game, same old moaning, trolling, whining, the reality is…

Fans of the game and they are out there make art, do inspiring acts, make clothing, they show their love, get involved, read the lore, and so forth, while unhappy mmo players just bitch about every game out there including this one.

How many other threads can i go into and find probably well over 90% of you talking about whatever, pretty much most of them i’ll assume, how many others am i in, pretty much zero, and why is that?

Meh, all i read is the same stuff i read about in every other game, same old moaning, trolling, whining, the reality is…

This kind of shit drives away new players FYI. When they see a hardcore can community that dismisses criticism as “trolling” and “whining” they see a toxic hardcore community and that’s either a barrier to try the game or to get deeply engaged.

Fans of the game do create all kinds of awesome stuff and I love checking it out when they do, there’s a lot of incredible content. But they also don’t blindly pretend the game is without fault, and often vocally lobby developers for improvements to make the game even better and better position it for success.

I’d hoped you’d have been reasonable to have a discussion with for once, but unfortunately I can see your head is still firmly planted in the sand.

That’s the kind of stunt you can only pull with a game set in…basically our very own world. Not many could even try.

I do hope they put the time they gained in rehashing old content for the re-launch to good use and much content awaits. Funcom does have a habit of biting more than they can chew and disperse resources.

I think the million dollar question and proverbial proof in the pudding is now that Funcom has recycled most of Secret World’s content, what kind of new content will SWL be getting this year? I do hope it is the rumored Congo expansion, as I could see the Funcom writers going to town with that one. :)
