Black Desert’s costume contest has begun with a $10000 grand prize

Last week, Black Desert teased its upcoming costume contest, and now we’ve got the full details. The big prize, of course, is the chance to have your art piece actually turned into real armor and put into the game for everyone to wear – oh, and $10,000 US. Not too shabby, right? Runners-up in each region will take home $3000 apiece.

Kakao notes that designs much “follow the basic aesthetics and theme of the classes” in BDO – “excessively imaginative” concepts, as well as “provocative” and “violent images” will be rejected. Underboobage, again, is clearly welcome.

Submissions run from February 7th to March 5th, with initial screening and voting rounds in all regions running into April. The top winners will be announced on April 11th.

Good luck folks!

I want them to finish implementing the old costume contest costumes into the game. They had some really outstanding entries. I was seriously hoping to get this for my Valk:

I like sexy outfits in MMOs and see nothing wrong with them. Since these are usually fantasy games I don’t really have a disconnect between “elves being real” and “that armour is too skimpy for combat”.

I really do enjoy BDO, but the over-sexualization of female characters through cash shop outfits gets under my skin a bit. I’m all for choices! And there’s just not a lot of choices for those that play female characters. (Thank goodness player-crafted outfits fit in the world without hyper-sexualism toward female characters.)

I realllly hope to see some classy, period outfits win.

I KNOW!! Even the example given above has a fully covered male costume with a practically completely exposed female costume.

Nice example pictures. It reminds me of everything wrong with gender based armor equality in MMORPGs.

What? Males with spikey phalluses all over them, face covered so they can sexually attack the white nude female armor anonymously isn’t normal?

That gave me a chuckle, I have to admit.

Technically they should have 2 options 1 full armor, and 2, skimpy armor. It is mostly guys that play female toons and they want to see eye candy. That is just how it is. Now for the women that do play these games the full armor option would make people happy of both genders, you give the pervy guys what they want and those that dont want to look at female characters that are wearing skimpy armor what they want, win-win. But then again you do end up having 3 armor models so it means extra work for the artist.

While extra work I am sure is always welcome, you know studios are trying to save money and make as much as possible. And you do have the multiple race as well as different model types so you do end up with a full set of armor for every race and gender, lots of work. You would think that they have some form of base model and some software that takes the toons and wraps it accordingly, sorry ignorant on how it works so I assume that making the models for each is very time consuming.

While we are at it, why not have male skimpy armor as well, I mean it might not be my cup of tea, but maybe some other person might like that.

They generally end up having a good mix of armor choices for each class. Browsing through the female outfits there’s plenty of mixes of variety of armor sets depending on what you care to be dressed in. That includes the males as well, such as the overly revealing (for both sexes) Kibelius Armor or the open Chested Blue Tiger gear for Ninja or Musa.

So really there’s a little something for everyone for whatever floats your boat ;)

It’s nice when a game is doing well that they can give back to the community with big, meaningful prizes for things like this!

Let me guess: full armor female designs will fall under the “basic aesthetics” disqualification terms?

This is incorrect. For example the “Jousting” armor currently in the game for Valkyrie is from the last round of winners from Korea. In addition that is also the “Night Cat” armor for both Tamer and Kuno was as well.

Source for Images/Pictures but be warned some people talk about Foundry website not being as secure as it should be and should probably only be viewed with an ad blocker. There are other sources if you’re curious, however.

Also witch, sorceress, valkyrie, and tamer rarely have the bust area showing at all. The armors that show skin tend to be the armors you have to buy, and many players, males and females, buy those armors because it’s a fantasy game, and it’s about fulfilling personal fantasy. No need to be a puritan, but if you want to be a puritan there are plenty of armors to choose from. Black Desert is not Tera.

No, because just about everyone but the furry race was gettin’ near-naked in TERA. Eye candy for the masses!
